Hello. I just wanted to know, if one were to have an SS number would that person have any way of finding a job or obtaining a license? Sorry for the bad question. Just wondering. Thank you.

Um, the short answer is yes, but you need to give us more information. There's gonna be some limitations, depending on what state you live in, etc.

As far as the job goes, I'd say not unless you're authorized to work in the US legally. As far as getting an ID, what state do you live in?

Even for the job, it really depends on how far your employer wants to go with checking it. If he just wants the number or to make sure your SSN matches your name, it will obviously come up as valid if it is a real one. However, if you really go through the whole I-9 process, the card should clearly state "not authorized to work in the US without authorization from DHS" or something like that. I am not going to tell you to try to use it since it is not legal, but I thought you should at least have all the info.

As far as getting an ID, Illinois allows you to get a DL if you have a valid SSN. It would be my choice since it doesn't stand out as much as an ID from Washington or NM these days.
