I should be thankful that I have a job at all, I know. The whole minimum wage thing is fine too. I take public transit everywhere so I don't need a car either. The job's right down the street from me so I walk there. I don't have grounds to complain much... Except that with my rent at $100/week and my job giving me a max of only 17 hours/week and money being taken out for taxes which is about 11%... I barely make rent. Having $9/week to get hygiene products, food, clothes, and extra lifestyle things is... impossible.
So of course I looked around here for answers.
I have indeed been running all around town asking for jobs. Nowadays, people seem a bit more paranoid about hiring illegals. So I had no luck. I've been looking on craigslist with no luck either.

So what is one to do when they're in my situation? I was thinking etsy. I was also thinking making money off of google (since my pastor is willing to do businesses online with me). What are my options, friends? I'm sure a lot of us are in this situation, but do you have any suggestions?

idk where you live but if you're in a rural area yard work is an option. You can find good deals thru friends sometimes. I get $25 + $8 an hour each time i do yardwork for my neighbor. You have to look around a lot to find this type of job tho

Find something your good at or something very interested in and brainstorm business ideas from there. Owning a business is most of the time better than having a job. Of course when you're starting out, money is hard so you might want to keep your job.

No boss telling you what to do and nobody controls your time... but then again when your that free, you have the tendency to become lazy.

If you have basic computer skills (changing out parts and installing a fresh copy of windows) you can get some nice gigs. Most of my customers are older adults.

Have you try applying at a restaurant? Perhaps, a Korean restaurant or any restaurant that its owned by an Asian person. More than likely they are willing to pay under the table. I know in many Japanese restaurants if you are experienced in making sushi, you'll earn a decent amount of money.

Wow man I been unemployed for about 2 months now. Whoever has a job here is so lucky. I been looking and looking but no luck. I am going broke and just basically been leeching off my parents in rent and groceries. I feel sick to my stomach and getting depressed almost.

If my parents had only came here 2 years earlier....

Are you going to school? I just had to quit my 11 year job about a month ago. I had to sacrifice that job for this one class that plays a major role in grad school admission. I have decided not to work during my masters. That is, I will not be contributing any money. However, I don't see it as leeching. I see it as an investment. Once I am done with school, I will be bring in the big bucks. So don't feel like you are leaching. Just kick ass in school. Bring those 4.0's home. That is your contribution to the family.

Yeah there's a lot of scams around the internet- "Make $753 dollars an hour from home!" or "Get paid for your opinion!" Trust me, I've tried many and at one point wised up and realized I was getting cheated. I didn't lose any money but plenty of people do. If you want to work from home it'll be work, and it takes a while for it to pay off so you have to be committed. Here's a link I found helpful. It's a bit old and some of the links no longer work but for the most part it has great legitimate sites. Best of luck; you're not alone!
