I hope the Harvard's Faust stands up for this student.

Quote:
Alan was not just a street-smart kid in a baseball cap but a gifted student who breezed through math problems and quoted Milton and Dante. He was a voracious reader, the high school salutatorian, and last month, he graduated from Harvard with a degree in the humanities.

But now Alan has hit a dead end, because one night 19 years ago his mother led him across the Mexican border into California, making him an illegal immigrant. His only legal employment option as a college graduate now is to return to Mexico, where he has few contacts and fewer prospects.

This is such a sad story. however, this is (in my opinion) a very important story for everyone.

Number one: it is important because this should help americans realize that just because someone is illegal and not a US citizen, it does not by any means mean that they can't accomplish the same things as they can. Sometimes you have such mean and rude americans talk about illegals as if they weren't as human as the are.

Second of all: this is a story to show that the DREAM ACT should be passed now!! Imagine how much this kid worked to get into Harvard, to survive at Harvard and to graduate from Harvard and now he can't do anything with his Harvard degree.

Third of all: this is an important story for all of us in the same or similar situation. it should show us that we should not give up and just because we are under unfortunate circumstances. i think many of us, and i say this from personal experience, get very discouraged when we first find out about our situation. we think we can not go to college because here isn't any way for us to pay for it when, in fact, there are many top colleges who as long as you have the grades, brain and passion will accept you and pay for you to go to their school.

we should all take this as a learning experience and hope for the best for him.

CROSSING MY FINGERS FOR THE DREAM ACT TO PASS!!!

Well he does have a degree from Harvard, so come on. If he ever does go back to Mexico I think he'd have a pretty good job. Still, hopefully he can stay.
