THIS IS PRECISELY HOW I FELT ONLY A COUPLE YEARS AGO.
All I could do was support my family because they were the only people that would and could support ME.
But the past few years, our finances went downhill, went into hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt, and I felt the full weight of it all on my shoulders. On top of all of this, I had my own future, undecided, uncertain, shameful, and downright depressing.

My parents came to this country to give me a better future, but that very desire to help me was in fact, hurting me. I went through years of depression, still fighting, blaming, blaming, and blaming, myself and my parents. Before I knew it, I was 24. Too old to complain. No excuses.
It was simple. My parents did give me a chance. They did try to give me a future, and they tried their hardest. It's my fault that I didn't go to a 4-year after highschool. It's my fault that I didm't fully recognize the seriousness of my situation by the time I was 18. It was my fault that I didn't know.

There was noone to blame but myself. No one to help me, no one that knew exactly how it felt. But this only proved to me that there is NO ONE THAT CAN HELP BUT MYSELF!

Now, afters years wasted on shaming myself and feeling helpless, I think I truly know what is happening and what I have to do.

I said to my self,
I am purely a product of an immigration of people that is the backbone of this country's beginnings. I am part of a natural effect of immigration and I just happened to be one of the first of my kind to arrive. The ones that struggle the most. The ones that lay down the path for their children and grandchildrens' prosperity in this land. We are the ones that really make a difference. What we do now with our situation will make it or break it not just for us, but for our families, our children, and our blood.

Once I thought this way, the world looked different. I was important. I AM important. I'm not going let my status affect my goals and my aspirations. I'm going to try my best with what I have, be the very best that I can be. I'm going to take care of my status no matter what, not just for myself but for my generation. I'm going to make a difference, I'm going to be the one that lays down a path of prosperity for my blood.

Since then, I've got a job making sushi for $3600+ a month, I'm traveling to WA for a DL, I'm seeking a partner to marry me not for citizenship but for prosperity. I'm making this happen. I will never stop.

What I want to get out to you readers is this. Do your very best. NEVER give up, NEVER falter. Be SMART. We have to be. We are bilingual, we are multi-talented, we are advantageous when it comes to desperate strength.

God bless you all, and I hope that everyone that read this feels me, and that you all can relate and feel the way I do.

Until next time,

Hen

This is a good post.
A really good one.

Hey guys how about this? How about one day when CIR or DA passes, we meet up. All of us and celebrate. Why not share our struggles even further and talk about how it made us and shaped us.

I'm really sorry for those who I offended, I was extremely lost yesterday. It got to me, but HENGAHTI is right, we are the first generation of our kind. Once it passes how about it? We can make an organization that will shape the next generation to be more fit by teaching them what we learn through out this journey. Honestly I've always wanted to become big and make big money to be independent financially for my family and also so I can make my dream come true. My DREAM as a economist is to find a solution to this world crisis. If this continues the way its doing now. Were going to kill ourselves.

No I was kidding... It's not U.S. government agency... But I did get a job working for Korean government agency though

I have two months left before I go back to Korea... I don't think DA will pass within next two months so I am readying myself for departure... All the earning I get from this new job will go straight to buying plane ticket and living expenses when I get there... So ends my life in the U.S.
BLEH~

that sounds like a good idea. And just think about it, this fact that were are denied some of the basic rights that other people get makes us appreciate those things when we finally get them. I think most of us can't wait to start working legally, can other people really say that when they were never denied the right to just support themselves.

and hengathi, you should not blame yourself about not knowing the seriousness of your situation before you were 18. You where underage, and as a result not facing the full blunt of the complications. You attended public school for free, but then when it came time for college the road was minimally traveled and not a lot of information was available, the only way to attend a school would be to get a scholarship while your friends might be able to get into any normal school and get federal aid or loans to attend. I got lucky I got a single scholarship at a school where I know someone with whom I coud stay, otherwise, I would not be attending college after I graduated from high school.

but you seem to be doing well now, and that is great to hear. Good luck in your future endeavors.

You want a job? Ge a job in a place where they don't ask for a SSN because they pay cash anyway to everybody. Be a bartender or a waiter, restaurants pay cash to everybody who works for them and also to US citizens. They don't pay taxes that way.

So any job in a restaurant or a bar would work. And try giving Spanish lessons, it might be a nice extra income for you and any job that you work for a private person and get paid cash (cleaning houses, gardening).

im sorry but your very wrong, i was a waitress for 2 years. they do ask for your ssn.eventhough you make most of your money from tips.you still have to claim them and pay taxes. being a bartender and a server is definitely a great way to make lots of money. well good luck with everything and try to stay positive
