I'm going into my second year at my college.
First year, I was qualified for TEXAS grant that paid for my tuition.
However, due to my mistake, I did not reapply and now I'm stuck in a situation where I might need to take a break during the semester.
Has anyone been in this situation before?
Anyone has any advice for me? Thank you.

I think you should contact your school and see what their financial aid office tells you. There might still be something that you can do about the grant.

I did. When I went to turn my application in, they said wait 3 to 6 weeks for them to give me the result.
But my financial advisor emailed me and said that they were no more funds available.
I told her I was neither USC nor PR and she just told me to look up some private education loan lenders.
I know Sallie Mae offers us a student loan but I don't know any USC that will cosign it for me.
So I'm debating whether or not I should just wait until I get my result officially or just go to community college for a semester.

So I checked my school's financial aid page and it says

Quote:
Students who received TEXAS GRANT funds in prior years must file their 2009-2010 FAFSA no later than November 15, 2009 for renewal of their TEXAS GRANT award. There will be no exceptions to this deadline.
Anyone that has experience with TEXAS grant, do you think it's possible that because I'm just renewing what I already received, I will still be able to get the grant?
On College for Texans website it states that I can get TEXAS grant for up to 5 years or 150 credit hours depending on what comes first.

As far as I know, there's not such thing as getting a loan without a good credit history or someone to co-sign.

If you will find someone to co-sign you, that will make life much easier for you. But I'm doubt that someone would like to sign that IF you decide to not pay back the loan, he will have to pay it instead.

Do you have any US Citizen or a Green Card holder family member?

No.
But can my parents cosign for me if they have a valid SSN?

that is a more likely scenario. I also fall into that category, my parents are actually permanent residents, but as of this point we have not tried applying. We were looking at the federal plus loan, until I found a clause in the section that created that loan which may actually disqualify me, but the best option would be a private loan. the school year is about to commence, so I will try and submit the results of my endeavor in the perspective thread that relates to loans for others to see.

I recently learned from someone that tried to get the CitiAssist Student loan and that they were not successful, has anyone been successful? I know it was discussed in another thread a while ago, and it had many people enthusiastic that there was a possibility they could get that loan, some mentioned that they were going the next day even.

I have been looking for private loans that have been offered to international students with an american cosigner as it seems the most promising type of loan for our status.
