Hey, I have to travel from NJ to Maine. I can't fly since I do not have a valid US ID but I will be traveling in a car with a bunch of US citizens. Do you guys know of any checkpoints on I-84, I-90,I-495,I-95, and I-295?

I don't know about Maine, but I've traveled from New Jersey to Boston close to 50 times on I-95, never had a problem.

Its pretty chill up here. I've been to New Hampshire, Vermont close to Maine and I've never seen checkpoints. You'll be fine. and if there happens to be checkpoints they usually check the driver not the passengers. So dont worry.

I took a car trip to Boston and then to Vermont from NJ 2 years ago without any problems.

BUT, you can fly domestically without US ID. I flew to FL from Newark Airport last spring break. I didnt even have my passport, I had my "nationality ID" (I guess something like Mexican matricula) which wasn't even in English, and I had my college ID. They asked me some questions in TSA checkpoint, like why don't you have your passport, and I calmly told them I've lost it, and that "I was told that I could travel without it domestically". Then, they put me through "extended security check", which means more scanning of body etc. And when I was coming back from FL, they didnt ask me any questions, they just put me through extended security check. Just be calm, don't panic, answer questions calmly and you'll be fine.

And I believe the reason why the TSA guy in NJ asked me so many questions is because there was a shooting which took lives of I believe 14 in my college town a day before my trip. Unfortunately, because of my name, I can be subject to more questioning after terror attacks like that. The TSA guy asked me many questions about that shooting like I would now anything. :/

Thanks guys, I heard about those checkpoints on route 91 in Vermont, I was just afraid that those extend to Maine in some way.

Unfortunately, flying is out of the question, since we are going as a large group, but thanks for the info.
