I came to America when I was 5 with my parents on tourist visas. never really thought anything of my status until I was old enough to get a job and looked at my Social security card and saw that NOT FOR WORK on it. I live in Illinois and didn't have a problem getting my driver's license. My family didn't really have the money to put me through college, but luckily I received a track scholarship that, along with lots of help from my church, allowed me to finish college and earn a bachelors in computer management.

I really started to feel the sting of immigration last summer, when I wanted to go back to my home country to try out for the olympic team (I was ranked 6th in my country, and would have made the team, but after talking with our somewhat incompetent immigration lawyer, I decided that missing the Olympics was better than a 10 year ban for overstaying). I did lots of research then and finally, after all these years figured out what was really going on with my status.

Now I'm a recent college grad like a lot of you are, and feeling kind of depressed about the situation. My family will be receiving their LPR status in a few short months after an almost 10 year wait, while I will be receiving a big fat bag of nothing since I "aged out". Now all I have to look forward to is an upgrade in Family Sponsored Preference, or the DREAM act. I know marriage is an option, but I really cant see that happening until I find a way to have steady income. Anyway, that's my quota of feeling sorry for myself, and I'm glad to at least be able to share experiences with others like me.
LPR? I am guessing PR stands for Permanent Resident but what about the L?
just curious, when I looked it up wikipedia came up with Lawful Permanent Resident but took me directly to simply Permanent Residency.

I am guessing you have given up on your parents claiming you due to the very extensive wait time during which you could be deported?

According to one lawyer the wait time can be as much as a couple decades for a parent claiming an adult son/daughter while they are PR. However, this lawyer also stated that by applying now it could be possible to get a DL with the documents that come from my status being processed, and furthermore, if my parents became USC then it would shoot my application forward potentially taking maybe a couple years after they attain their citizenship. Maybe you could look more into that.

I however have this question, maybe someone here knows how to answer it.

What happens if someone took this path and the DA passed, would that person be able to fix his/her status under the DA being that they already started the legalization process through some other path?

BTW, welcome to DAP
