You can start the petition process now. When your parents become citizens, you can upgrade your visa classification, whichever is the faster priority date.

**NOTE, you must be covered under 245i to do this.**

The Green card process for adult children[Over 21] being petitioned by their US citizen parents can take a long time, around 7-8 years depending on location. All permanent resident applicants also have to have All 10 fingerprints done & a photo as a standard part of the biometrics process.

This must be because you're well under 21 years of age for this to happen.

The process doesn't take too long if you're well under 21 years of age[say 18] if you have LPR parents. The process takes about ~ 2 years but if you age out that's it you won't be able to claim residency until your parent upgrades the petition if they become US citizens & you came into the country legally or are under 245i.

He doesn't necessarily have to be covered under 245i.If they simply overstayed it can also be done if they are under 21 years of age & have a parent who is a resident & should he/she age-out his/her unlawful presence can be forgiven if the Parent is a US citizen & if the petition is upgraded to reflect as such.
