My #1 alternative is to move to a city, like New York City, highly secure for immigrants.

Don't tell me how expensive it is to live in city. I have been here long enough. My family only make about $1500 monthly and we are happy.

You can always find an apartment (those very cheap one) or a share-bedroom less than $200 and one metro card will get you access throughout the city!

sorry if I sound negative.. just frustrated.. depending on my sister w her expired license and my dad is hard especially when they make u late for work... or take forever to come get u and your waiting there 40min

anyways.. u guys think driving w out a license is bad? obviously.. but what can u do? what would the cops do if they stop u and u have no license.. ??
trust me, a lot of us understand the need, I drive without a license because I have to get up so early that I beat everyone in my family, and taxis are not even operating at that time, but I drive the least possible and know the roads I commute very well.
There are just inherent risks that comes with driving under our situation that requires us to really plan where we are going and prevent bringing the unwanted attention. If you get pulled over, like I said before (not sure if on this thread or not), you are not going to want to tell the cops that you are undocumented, only give that information that is required, such as your name, speaking the least is the best option, you do not want to incriminate yourself inadvertedly. A good case scenario the cop will let you go, a slightly worse case scenario they will let you go without your vehicle (it will get towed), and the worse case scenario, not sure, arrest you, but they would need a reason, they just can't arrest on a hunch (right?).

All I'm saying is this:

If you're going to break the law, at least do it in style.

And how do I know scooters suck for guys? I rode one for about two years. Thank god I don't have to get on that thing anymore.
I'm gonna have to commend you on the funny comments, even if the PC crowd feels otherwise. Maybe I'm just getting old, but guys talk this way, --gay is not a one definition word people, get over it....and every guy wants to portray his masculinity in everything he does (it's evolution not homophobia, and going against it would just be hypocritical).

Now that I've ruffled people's feather's unnecessarily.... when you mention low speed limit at 45 mph, I guess you are talking about highway roads? Any way to get there using street roads w/lower speed limits thus allowing you to use a 49 cc "vehicle"? In Texas there's restrictions for vehicles under 5 horse power of going into freeways anyway, and a scooter is far from a safe mode of transportation around trucks and SUV's.

There's this thing I've heard about that originated in California called a "carpool" (yes I'm being sarcastic in my ignorance), where people w/a similar route to yours give you a ride in return for gas money compensation. Now by using something called Google (still at it), I'm sure you can find groups in your area which you can join.

I took the bus for a long time in the shittiest city where you can take a bus averaging 1.5-2 hours of travel each day, so it's doable. People have been commuting to their jobs for decades now,....transportation should be a nuisance at this point, not a life decision.

PS: just glanced over Florida's DHSMV rules, and you need a class E license for a 50 cc or lower powered vehicle, so that's out.

Oooh, I've been to Brandon! It is kind of a smaller town. Do you have any friends that could drive you in exchange for gas money? Or how about a coworker?
When I had a job (in FL), I had friends that would take me and pick me up. In exchange, I would sometimes pay for their meal when we got food or I would give them gas money. Very few of my friends ever accepted money from me, unless they were really broke themselves. I was friends with my coworkers, so for a while, I would just ask a different coworker for a ride home every day. It did help that I'm a girl, but I like to think that there are some nice people out there.

Good luck Dreamact09 and enjoy Florida.

Well, in this "emo" generation, you gotta watch what you say before people get their panties in a bunch and start slashing their wrists.

And you know what they say about scooters, they're like fat girls; a lot of fun to ride, until your friends find out. <<<add me to the misogynistic list.

As far as 50 cc's go, you could "mod" the bike and expect 35 mph but 50-55 mph would be in the pushing it territory.

Mopeds are restricted to 30 mph by national law, perhaps scooters too.

Top speed record for a 50cc vehicle is at 144 mph

Im a nanny so theres no one else working diff time shifts and I have to be there super early and my friends dont even wake up that time.. like I have friends.. some ppl dont get the whole im illegal here thing and get rather mean. Im usually careful not to be telling everyone my story...

and because I dont drive people my age are in college and got other things going on and if I dont take the time to go to their house, hang out, etc and invest the time in the friendship they arent either and heck unfortunatly I dont have much options.

Here in clermont, FL, it isn't any better. Everything is pretty far apart.

I totally understand your situation. I luckily live in a town where buses are abundant... but not after a certain time in the early evening. All my friends now have jobs that are high end and so I can't work under the table with them and expect them to take me to work. On top of all of this, whenever I search for jobs online, it's always the towns that are hard for me to get to that are hiring.

So I can't do the whole car thing. I'm on my own. Bicycles worked awesome and I had great legs for awhile but after I got fired from my recent job, it's been increasingly harder to find jobs that close to home that I could get to on bicycle. I do walk everywhere... and again, now that I've exhausted potential jobs in my area, I can only look for work in towns a ways off... so no walk.

My only 'solution' to this problem was that I just find work in places I can get to easily by bus. Only two buses run through my town and the closest one to my house stops running after eight. The other one runs every hour to two hours the later in the evening it gets.

I remember visiting a friend in this one town, I got there by three, we spent the early evening together and when I tried to get home, I waited at the stop from about six-thirty to about nine.
However, I'm desperate for work and I wouldn't mind getting a job even if I had to walk half an hour to get to the bus stop... and even if I had to wait for the bus for a few hours to get back home.

So none of us have the best options, but I think we all knew that. I feel bad for people in PA... they're nowhere near civilization in some towns (figures that's where my bf wants to move us to).

All I can really say is good luck.
