I would be worried period. Someone once stole my poor identity and used it to get a credit card. After several letters and phone calls I had to file a police report on Identity Theft and send it to the collectors. It's a pain in the butt, and if you don't do everything in your power to clear your name from that loan--when you finally do obtain citizenship you will have terrible credit and more than collectors might come after you. It's a crappy situation, believe me...I've done it before. I think I'm finally in the clear, but I would get in contact with that loan office and try to find out as many details as possible regarding "yourself" since they claim it was you who borrowed the money. I hope this helps, I also hope I did not worry you too much.

But seriously who would still our identities? Ugh..

I still can't believe that a lawyer would tell you not to worry about it... its 30,000 that someone took out on your name, if you do not worry about it then you are paying those 30,000 one way or another as they believe you took the money out.

That is why I usually consult several lawyers about anything that might be trouble if not done correctly.
