Hey guys, I'm currently attending a CUNY college and have received this letter from my school that says I'm eligible for a grant called the "CUNY - Instituitional Waiver Program" for the academic year 2009/2010. The letter entails that this grant is funded by the "Student Financial Aid Initiative....to assist those (UN-DOCUMENTED) students who will be at risk to continue their matriculation due to the higher tuition cost."

Just wanted to know if any fellow dreamers who are currently attending a CUNY college have receive this letter. And is this an indication that the Dream Act is underway?

Waiting to hear from you guys soon................

Did you have to apply for it or did they just send to you?
Do you have to be an entering freshman or does it apply to anyone?

I stopped attending due to financial issues and I have about a year to go to get my Bachelors.

I'm currently entering my junior year at CityTech.

Yes, the letter was sent to me w/ no previous request from my part....you guys can call the Financial Aid Department of your school to see if the grant is still available, but based on what the letter is telling me, the application is to be "submitted no later than October 15, 2009", which has already passed.

The application asks some private questions duh...such as your income and savings, and "if you're under 24, you will need to fill out the income and savings of your parents or spouse."

Anyways, definitely need more feedbacks on what you guys think about this......once again........is this an indication that the Dream Act is underway?

I don't think it's an indication that the Dream Act is on the way since that has to do with Congress/the President.

It seems like a private (non-federal) grant from CUNY since it has a lot of undocumented students that they know are struggling to pay the tuition and are probably dropping out. I say that because I stopped attending because of my past financial situation, but I intend to go back.

Didn't they raise tuition recently? I don't attend CUNY, but my friend was complaining about it recently. I am sure they are just trying to help out undocumented students because of the tuition raise. Don't think they would have any knowledge about the DREAM Act passing before the general public does.

sadly my counselor says my GPA isnt high enough, but we are still waiting for my SAT's.
however he said if i go to CC for 2 years then transfer grades wouldnt really matter, and id be accept it and also it would save money.

but the thing is 2 if my friend are moving to the city and goin to college there so they said we could share an apt.

oh and NY state college and universities accept undocumented students i know that, and if you keep an 80 or above they help you pay some of it.
