I wasn't talking about the loan, I was saying not being a citizen won't help him with the FAFSA.

I swear, this particular manages to come up constantly in one way or another. I don't know what it is. I guess the fact that it's an intimidating form and it sounds scary. I have no idea. A long time ago, I too was kinda put off by it. Since then, I've managed to get over my fear and send one in. I'm hoping to apply for massive scholarships for next year.

Basic Knowledge 101: FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Can you fill out and send in a FAFSA?

Yes. You file the paper version because the online version requires a SSN.

Are you eligible for any federal aid?

No. You clearly have to disqualify yourself from receiving any federal aid on the form itself. There is a checkbox you have to check. It's bad news bears if by some freak accident and/or gov't mistake you receive federal aid. DON'T TAKE IT. Not grants, not work study, nothing.

What is the purpose of filing a FAFSA if we don't qualify for federal aid?

The one form of aid that we are generally able to receive: scholarships. Private scholarships are immensely helpful in funding our education. Many scholarships are merit-based and most are need-based. The FAFSA is beneficial in that it shows if you have need or not. The trick is finding scholarships that don't require a SSN (if you don't have one) or legal presence.

Obviously, if you've disqualified yourself from federal aid, you're not going to be getting any help. However, the opportunity still exists for scholarships and/or private loans.

What happens if I file for FAFSA?

Nothing. If you've disqualified yourself and given true information, you have nothing to fear. Luvsherry gave falsified information and she's still here. What does that tell you?

Will I be denied every aid?

Well duh. As an undocumented student, you're not eligible for any federal aid.

Will there be some available?

No. See above.

Sonawabich, I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, try to use the search function to find them. If that doesn't work, I'll try to clarify. If you use the search function and you don't find anything and you ask me, I'll use the search function for you. If I don't find anything, I'll gladly answer. If I do find the answer, I'll shank you.

Stevie, don't be a bitch. You're not cute enough to make it work.
Hey babe you just wasted your valuable time trying to help a helpless idiot (sweety, i kno an idiot when i come across one and this guy is holding a red flag thats got "i'm an idiot, please waste your time on me" written on it. But of course you are too nice of a person to notice that ) lolz. Also, I never said I was cute, nor did i ever post any of my pics on the internet so you can see wut i look like... so please refrain from making comments bout my looks when u don't kno how i look

This the caliber of reply I expected.

DUMB.

That is EXACTLY why I tried to explain myself clearly.

Honestly, some of you DAP members are incredibly narrow minded.

Let me tell you again I DON'T WANT NO FREE MONEY FROM GOV.

All I need is a LOAN.

Grant, aid=free money
Loan=NOT free money, has to be payed back

Do you speak English?

The fact that I am not be able to receive any Fed Fin Aid, DOES NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION.
Yes it does and this still doesn't change the fact that you are stupid....

this is a question that I should be asking YOU

Don't you see anything wrong with this

??? You are a helpless idiot.... You can't receive ANY MONEY (whether its free or not) from the government at all PERIOD... (also there was no indication of you mentioning anything about loans in the intro). If you are looking to receive PRIVATE loans from banks, you can read through this http://dreamact.info/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26

There, that was the FIRST effing thread in the lounge. Now i've done my good deed for the week... (sigh) I feel like I helped a kid who's lacking half a brain.

Btw whats this suppose to mean

I am facing the same problem I filled out the paper form, sent it in a couple weeks ago, have applied for a loan, been pre-approved, all the bank is waiting for is for the school to tell them how much to send.

The only problem is that apparently the school requires the FAFSA for that kind of loan in order to verify the financial information, and because it is a federal parent loan (parents are legal residents, and it was pre-approved without putting any wrong information and continued with the loan after consulting with various immigration lawyers). They do not have any options to submit the form to them or any alternatives.

The problem that I am facing is that FAFSA returned the paper application informing me that the SSN was not there and that I should put it and send the application back to them. I filled out the application as it was mentioned in the past, placed that I did not qualify for any federal aid, did not put an SSN. Just how it was mentioned by other people that managed to apply.

Now my question is... shall I use all zeroes and try again? Have any of you tried doing that? Those that managed to apply for the FAFSA, what did you guys put in the SSN field if you did not leave it blank?

COME ON GUYS! KEEP IT COOL. DO NOT CALL PEOPLE IDIOTS. IF SOMEONE WANTS TO START A NEW THREAD TO ASK FOR SOMETHING THEN ANSWER OR DON'T BUT DO NOT CALL PEOPLE IDIOTS.

A SIMPLE "LOOK AT OTHER THREADS" IS ENOUGH IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE ANSWERING TO SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN ASKED BEFORE.

THANK YOU AND HAVE A GOOD DAY.

called fafsa a couple weeks ago, they basically told me they could not help me because I did not have a SSN, that I can only apply if I have an SSN number. so... basically I am stuck.

And yes, I let them know it was for a private loan, that my school needs the information from fafsa to send the bank information about how much I need for tuition, was told I can't apply for the fafsa without an SSN. So there, it seems like the people that managed to apply for the fafsa did it either by dumb luck or maybe when they did it it was not a requirement set in stone that you need an SSN, but it does not seem to be possible to apply now.

I have a ssn # but am not considered a legal resident. I applied for fasfa about 5 years ago when I was in college and I was approved. I'm not saying that you should do the same, I'm just sharing my experience. It's up to you weather or not you want to take the risk, I know I did, and it paid off.
