Newbie here! w/question!

Hi everyone, I am new to the website and have my own similar story... I was brought by my mother from Mexico to the U.S. when I was 7 yrs old along with my brother. I am currently enrolled in a community college and was wondering if anyone had any info on the following:

My great-grandmother was born here and was a citizen she passed away almost 2 yrs ago and my grandmother has just applied to be a U.S. citizen(through my great gma). We don't know the status of her application yet, but if she were to become one, could I possibly aquire legal status through her?

P.S. Both my grandmother and I have been living here for over 13 yrs approx.

Im not an expert on this, but i think the application Dies when the petitioner passes away, but you should consult a lawyer.

Is your grandma a resident yet? If your grandma was able to get legalized already, she could petition for your mom after she becomes an USC. I'm not sure if you would be included in the petition, but I think you would be.

Well, if your grandmother applied to become a US resident and your great-grandmother died during this process, then that petition would be invalid. However, if your grandmother is already a US resident and has applied for US citizenship then it wouldn't matter however, it takes at least 6 years for the process (if I'm correct). Once your grandmother receives her US citizenship THEN will she be able to petition for you. Before that, she can't petition.

Hey guys! Guess what? So we found out after 13 yrs of living here illegally that my grandma had U.S. citizenship at the time she was born!(Due to my great-grandmother having been born in texas) She applied for the n-600(citizenship through a parent) and they immediately sent her in 2 months the letter for the swearing in ceremony. Thus, my grandmother is now a citizen of the United States. Does anyone know how long it would take for a petition for any of her children to attain legal status?



P.S. She did not know she was a citizen when she was living in Mexico so there was no way she could've reported her children's births to the U.S. embassy and she had never lived in the United States.

Well according to the Visa bulletin right now the US is working adult sons & daughters with applications from the 5th of August,1992 so if an application were to be made now on their behalf.....I think you get the general picture.
