Hey guys im going to get married this month to a US citizen this december i love him im so excited. my situation is as follows.

I came here on a tourist visa about 4 yrs ago. i met him through one of my friends that ive known ever since i was 15. (im 24 now) its her cousin. now my question is, after i get married, what am i going to go through and how long will it take till i get my documents fixed? ive read certain sites and even the immigration site and yes it helps you but i need advice and facts from you guys since you all know it better than the people who actually just put it on the site. has anyone of you or your family members gotten married in my situation and how long has it taken for them to become legal??

im really excited about this. in reality i didnt get married to him before because i was so scared (still am) about what may come after... but i figured if i didnt do it now then am i going to be scared my whole life? when i can fix the problem? so any thought or ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! HAPPY FOR YOU ^_^

Don't be scared about this. If he's the right guy and you truly love him then go ahead and be with him. The good thing is you came in legally so you can file here and don't have to go back to your country. First form you have to file is the I-130 $355, and then I-485 $1010. You can do all of this by yourself or you can consult a lawyer. This process usually take 3-6 months but some usually take longer.I got married in september and im also trying to get legalize. It was stressful only because hubby wasn't around to help. feel free to pm me if you need to talk

visit this site. Believe me you'll love it and you'll find lots of people who can help you

ahh you dont know how much better the whole thing about me not going back makes me feels thats one of the major reasons why i hadn't filed for the papers because its just exhausting and well overwhelming. have you heard anything back from the INS office? and if so how is the process going for you?

haha well the good thing is that you're married and you're on the process of being legalized thats so awesome i bet its the best feeling ever.

im pretty excited im glad i got around to it because if i keep postponing it then it would take me forever. i should've done it awhile back but.. guess better now than later.

im getting married on 28th =] its a small thing. but my dad and his family are coming so it should be an interesting christmas/wedding.

My sister also married to his boyfriend this year. The situation is not as complicated as you would think, but there are two keys things you need to remember

1. Get all the documents ready and do everything on time
2. Interview

You will be doing a lot of documents and application in the future, make sure you get all the documents ready and put them in one spot, one binder or whatever.

Interview is very important. Some real-loving couples were turned down because they were not good at interview. Some agents are very bad and they tried to trick you so you wouldn't get through the interview and said it was a fraud marriage. Make sure you are familiar with their questions and get ready with any proof. You don't need to live with your husband as a matter of fact - my sister did not because she still going to school. But if possible you should change some of your bills to your husband's address (if you are not going to live with him for a while, for example, school).

Just be ready for anything. And, congratulation.
