Hello, everybody I'm so glad I found about this site I've been reading it for a while ;however, I didn't take the time to register and post . I have a quick question, I have an expired passport Chilean(2005) but my visa still valid U.S visa it expires on 2011 it's type/class R b1/b2. Entries M(multiple) can I still use it to go around and identify myself, such as libraries, hotels, and such. Also can I open a bank account with it? or get credit card, I have an expired ID, high school ID, and an ITIN. thanks in advance

yeah you can use it but some places might make a big deal out of it because your passport is expired. why don't you go get a state id or license since you said you have a valid visa or go to your consulate to get a new passport. good luck

B1/B2 is a tourist visa, can't get state ID or anything with that even when its valid. Go to consulate and get a current passport if possible

Well, if they got it before 9/11 incident, it was possible to get a license without a real valid id.
I don't know how my parents got theirs either,
but with my dad, I'm assuming he just showed his passport or something and they gave him his SSN when he got his license

My dad still had his driver license. We are from NYC, but he got it from Maryland. There are several states still very flexible on this subject. He just renewed it two years ago.

You can always get a driver license under a tourist visa - those are International driver license. But states like Maryland (not sure now) in the past only require like home address and a couple other simple and easy documents to get your ID.

My dad can even operate a restaurant (of course with other legal relatives) in New York City.

By the way, this SSN you meant the one listed on the tax return form? If you are undoucunemtned, that's your temporary number given by the government.

My parents got real Texas drivers license (not international license) although my dad's expired last year.
And since both of my parents have valid SSN, they also own their own business.
When my dad got his license in 1998, the state gave him a SSN with his license but it does say that it's not valid for employment. My mom has a valid SSN but it says it's not valid for employment as well.
And I think the temporary number you are talking about is an ITIN? Both my brother and I have ITIN my parents applied for taxing purposes.

Yeah. I was not really well informed in the first place (i just re-read your post). If you live in NYC, I can direct you and tell you that you can do almost anything you want with just a driver license / student ID rofl, well except getting a NYS driver license.

Yeah. I mentioned that because I had seen many dreamers discussed this SSN and some of them, apparently undocumented (invalid entry, for most people, or expired B1/B2 visa, like me). So I always thought they were misinformed about their ITIN and thought it was SSN.

Well, let me clarify some things, my passport expire and so did my time here, they gave us 6 months and of course we overstayed, however my visa is not expired like i said it expires 2011. Now I do have an expired ID that I got when I first got here also have an ITIN which I use for tax purposes, in 2005 the state of Missouri(where i live) pass a "show me proof" law passed under Republican governor Matt Blunt, which basically denies people who have tourist visa from getting any kind of ID (i.e Driver license) etc. you must have a I-94 or legal documents(green-card, ssn) to get one. thanks once again

I'm in the same situation as you in Texas.
But I used my passport at movies and clubs without any problems and my passport picture is from when I was 7 (I'm 19 now).
And I was able to open a college checking with Wells Fargo using my passport.
They said whenever I get a new passport, just tell them the passport number since that's how they identify me.
