Hello everyone,

I recently was reading few articles online regarding the education issue especially when it deals with illegal aliens.

I read that few states such as California, Washington, Wisconsin, and Texas allow instate tuition for undocumented aliens who graduated from local high schools with certain years of attendance.

However, here in Massachusetts, the law is different. There has been few law changing attempts by the new Governor Deval Patrick but the majority voted against it. Talk about liberals in Massachusetts... What a bunch of bull...

Anyway, I am asking fellow members to give some information regarding people who live in states that do not recognize undocumented aliens as qualified people to attend college and pursue their right of education. I know for fact, as I have contacted schools outside Massachusetts, in California for example, to ask whether they admit undocumented students from other states as non-residents but the answer was always disappointing.

So it seems that only people residing in these certain states have the right to attend schools, them being legal or not. What about people who live in "liberal" states such as Massachusetts?

We pay the out of state rate or just don't go to school, that's the sad case. Unless you get a scholarship to go to a private school, your next option is to move to a state that offers in state rate to undocumented residents. You will need to meet their residency requirements before you apply though.

Do you think you can go get accepted at a private school in Boston, Ma for example and be able to pay the full tuition?

I think you're a little confused. A state that doesn't offer in-state tuition to undocumented students can still accept those students into their schools. You would just have to pay out of state tuition just like citizens or LPRs of another state, or you might have to pay international rates. Some states like Texas allow undocumented students to reside there for a year before they can be eligible for in-state tuition. Most other states who offer in-state to us require that you graduate from that state's high school or receive a GED.

You can go to any school you want, for the most part. There are some states that ban undocumented students to attend any college, i.e. South Carolina. I'm not sure why California schools would tell you they don't allow undocumented students... I think what they meant was, they won't give you in-state tuition because you are not a California resident, but you can still attend the school, granted you can afford it. Hope that helps.

well I did a thorough research and found out the following:

I called Stanford university in California and they explained to me the situation. Californians being documented or not have the proviledge to instate tuitions. Now, public schools that are funded by the state only takes documented students nationwide and local undocumented kids. These states are California, Texas, new York, and roughly 10 other states.

So basically if you graduTed from one of those states' high school you are eligible for I state tuition whether documented or not. You will not be permitted to attend public colleges/universities if you lived somewhere else. But, you can go to any private school you wish to go to I believe. Just be ready to pay full tuition and have decent grades.

Please update or correct me if wrong.

Called Illinois state university and new York state university and both decline undecumented students from other state rather than theirs
