Before you read this, I wanna let you know that I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm just letting my anger out that I've been holding in for the past few months.

I currently go to school in NYC.... have been living in the city for like 4 months now. One thing I started experiencing after living in the city which I HATE is being called discriminatory names from Hispanic workers on the street. EVERY F***ING DAY. They call me "chinita" or "china" (not the country China) every time when I'm out. At first I just ignored it but it started getting really annoying. Not only I'm so offended being called Chinese just because I'm Asian (and I'm not even Chinese!) but also the way they call me is really rude. Like the other day I was standing on the street waiting for the traffic light to change and a Hispanic delivery guy that happened to ride a bike towards me called me out "chinita!! mmmmmaaa (he blew a kiss at me)" and went away laughing with the other guy. I googled the meaning of the word and I found that it means "a little Chinese girl" and that it's not considered offensive in Spanish-speaking culture. WELL YOU KNOW WHAT? In America it's considered rude to assume someone's nationality! I'm sure you'll be offended too if someone called you Mexican just because you're Hispanic. Right? Just few minutes ago on my way home from Dunkin Donuts a Hispanic guy saw me and randomly started yelling out at me in a high-pitched voice "chinta!! yoohoo - asian!! konichiwa!! china!! (the country China)". I ignored it and quickly walked away but I got SO ANGRY that I just had to rant here since it's pretty anonymous here. To be honest every time when I encounter Hispanic guys like them, I can't help but to feel negative towards Hispanic people. I know not ALL Hispanic people are like that and it's not right to generalize but I just get so angry. (and believe me, I try to get along with everyone of all race and nationality.) Well, that was my rant. Again, I didn't mean to offend anyone. If you're offended, then I hope you'd put yourself in my shoe and think how I felt. Thanks.

Dang... bitches must not know about your kung fu skills.

... lol j/k.

Don't let it get to you. Those pigs do that to all the sexy ladies they see. I see that kind of thing daily and I feel so bad for the girls. You should cary some pepper spray or a brick in your purse just in case they ever decide they wanna get touchy.

This is New York. What did you expect?? There's a lot of ignorant pigs in that place and some of them don't care about your feelings and some of them mess with you just to see a reaction. don't let this get to you. i remember my first time i went to manhattan, there was a guy who kept on blowing me kisses and trying to talk to me. thank god my bf was around. i understand where your coming from when people call you chinese. my ignorant mother does it all the time. she calls hispanics mexican and asians chinese and that shit pisses me off. defend yourself if they won't leave you alone.make sure you don't walk home alone at night. always have a mace in your bag or those little knifes.

Kinda funny how people also call me chinita except that I'm not asian. I'm actually Mexican. Used to annoy me, but now I just ignore it.

Generalize into this being about "immature stupid boys". I imagine that those "guys" you talk about were young, and yes immature and yes stupid and they probably love to get a rise out of any type/race of girls. I am Mexican and get these types of reactions from stupid, immature boys. I hope that you also generalize this into being about just that. And for the fact that in both instances they were Hispanic and I am Hispanic, I apologize for that. I know a lot of mature, polite and respectful Hispanic men and hope you meet one soon. =)

So let me get this straight. For some reason, "Hispanics" in New York City like to kill time by shouting chinita at you and the other 800,000+ Asians living there?

@ luvsherry: I've known some really hard working good Hispanic people from my hometown so I didn't expect to encounter something like this in NY. (I admit I'm very naive when it comes to people.) But I guess that's NY.....

@ Elena: You don't have to apologize me just because you're Hispanic! I was ranting about only those particular Hispanic guys not the entire Hispanic population in America.

@ angeleno: Apparently you can't read as everyone that replied except you understood what I meant. w/e I'm not gonna try to explain it. BTW, that gif is not funny, whatever your intention was.

I know what you mean No Name. Whenever I go out to China Town to eat dinner with my girl friend (who is Asian), Asians stare at me the majority of the time. At first I thought it was just me, but my girl friend noticed it to. I just don't let it get to me. The reality is that there will always be people that are cool and others that are not so cool. That is just the way life is at this point in time.

But I'm sure you can identify with the people calling you China. For example, you are categorizing Mexicans and other Latinos as Hispanics, when they are not Hispanics. Anyone born south of the Mexican border is a Latino/a as they were born in Latin America. As you can see, it is not always easy to be politically correct. I'm sure things will change as generations pass us by; that is, as people become more educated. In the mean time, I beg that you have patience for those that lack the information that you have.
