I think he will touch the economy (jobs & financial regulation) very heavily, budget deficits, and heatlh care.

He will talk about his proposals to fight the unemployment rate and to fix the unregulated financial system. He will probably talk about an independent committee to reduce budget deficits and how he will not let the health care bill go down in the Congress.
He might talk about the importance of education and his commitment to improving the U.S. education system.

But, he probably won't talk about immigration at all, given the current political environment.

I'll break my own rule and stop lurking to criticize just this once:

Honestly, it doesn't matter at all what he's going to say because he has promised things left and right and delivered on none of it.

The fact remains that for all the talk about the 100 days and the plans and this and that many of us have been deported by now or had our spirits broken or our lives further destroyed by inaction. Unless Obama is some unknown mystical force convincing DEMOCRATS to vote for DREAM or CIR I don't see him taking a single ACTION to bring any results. This is especially pathetic and shameful given that there are Republicans who support these bills and the #2 and #3 Dems in the Senate are very much for it and are carrying this thing on their shoulders alone (I omit here Mr. Reid who lacks a backbone and I don't expect much from).

Meanwhile in its first year the Obama administration has taken plenty enforcement measures and only suspended ICE policies that were downright fascist and had to disappear, political pressure or not. The administration continues to placate everyone's fears without an ounce of action beyond promises.

I expect more of the same - lofty savior rhetoric - while the days of our lives pass with us helpless to work for or serve this country. The State of the Union is that the Union is full of bullshit.

J6, you wrote exactly what i felt throughout the year!!
omg, nice to finally see someone who feels the same way!
when we have so much support why isn't dreamact already passed!
but at the same time, i try to understand his side of the story. we had similar case in South Korea. the last president we had, president Noh, now deceased, was young, full of ideas, so young people supported him, and made him president, but he was too young and lack of experience and power, he didn't accomplish anything, people hated him, and due to some scandal, he committed suicide.
not that president obama will do any of the sort, i just feel that, our dear president is too young & lack experience & power to do much but give great speech.
i hope people dont shout impeach, because thats what happend to korean president
sad...

and F' the ones that already got deported in this 1 year time... its sad. and the people we have helped to keep here temporarily; their stay is running on empty.

what he can do is just pass a memorandum to halt deportations for people who can prove that they have gotten a h.s diploma, if not done with h.s yet; the records are all in the computer and show at what age the student was admitted in to school...

i really do think though, that our generation is going to be more open minded...
Obama is a nice guy and he does what to help, but he has to stop being soo gullible.

THEY VOTED YOU IN OFFICE!!!, THEY VOTED THEM IN CONGRESS, THE PEOPLE ALREADY KNEW HOW YOU STAND WITH THE ISSUES... and they voted... whats this crap now i hear "American people this American people that"...

I"m sure he has something up his sleeve---I mean he cant really ignore the fact that it was because of the Hispanic vote that he got into office.

Unless that the 2008 election was a rare once in a lifetime event for us, I"m sure Hispanics will be a force to be reckoned with in upcoming elections including November 2010.

Let's not forget that the Hispanic population is the fastest minority growing in America.

President Obama is going to have to reassure all of us that he is unlike other presidents and that he will continue working on his top priorities. I'm sure he will make us all feel warm inside and make us all believe in him once again. There is no way he can ignore bringing up immigration. What would be really nice to hear is that when he speaks about his educational plans that he speaks of the importance of the dream act for undocumented students. Bringing it up in his State of the Union speech would be an excellent idea because it would make everyone watching aware of the bill.

Good points....pretty much something everyone expects him to cover for this speech. I just wish Immingration is somewhere at the top of the list. This #5 and #6 thing makes me feel like we have a good chance of getting pushed aside again since it doesn't look like we're the "priority".

Bleh...
