Ok, I may move to SLC, Utah sometime this year I am just ironing out some details.I have two options to get there (well in my mind i dont know if they are viable) either through car or airplane.

Since I live in deep South Texas about 60 miles from the border with Mexico there is a checkpoint in between where I live and San Antonio (nearest big city). From past experiences all they ask at the checkpoint (which is manned by USCIS) is "of what country are you a citizen of?" and "what is your destination" i have been able to go through the checkpoint without saying a word because i always go with someone else driving. which just may be good luck on my part...but anyway

My second option is flying out of here from a local airport, i was looking at the www.tsa.gov website and it says that an acceptable form of ID is a foreign passport...so i may be getting my Mexican passport soon. my question is do you think there will be more IDs needed from me to check if im here legally considering that we are so close to Mexico??

It is all up to you, but i would suggest by car and try to do it during a holiday when it is more expected to have people traveling. Try to go with family or friends that are legal and look less suspicious (you know, not a bunch of men/guys in a ratty car or a van full of stuff where they may want to look through it for drugs). You not being the driver is important cause they usually just talk to the driver. And, have your story ready, where are you going and for how long, and most of all stay calm so you can look normal.

The airports there seem more risky because if TSA notices visa missing, even though they may not be concerned, a question from them may be heard by border patrol agents who do care. And unlike other cities, border patrol is more prevalent there, especially in mcallen airport (it seems more than in harlingen).

Also, if you go by car, avoid going through el paso as there is also another checkpoint there. go more north and away from the mexico border.

Good luck!

thanks for the info.

yeah traveling by car is the safest bet. an airplane ticket is costly for me at this point anyway.

are you familiar with this area?
