Anyone else find this extremely ironic? You've been hiding your status for so long and now all of a sudden its hard to hide your sexual preference.

Including gays is only going to make the bill harder to pass..... why not just hide it until it passes? Even if someone have difficultly hiding it, who is to say they have the right to actually say someone is gay or not? Just say your straight, because adding gays into it is going to put 2 issues in one, when we definitely don't need it right now.

tl;dr......in cliffnotes, they are excluding spouses of LGBT community from being sponsored by legalized citizens? Fucked up but wouldn't suprise me. Legalization is a federal issue and until LGBT marriages are recognized at the federal level (regardless of legality per state) then it would not legally make sense. It'd be making state laws above federal law and set bad precedent.

In reality, LGBT marriages should be able to sponsor with how the law sits right now, but marriages are not legal at the federal level

I agree. People are commenting without even getting the topic right. As stated correctly by some people, the issue is not hiding your sexuality, it is the federal acceptance of gay marriage/partners for immigration purposes.
I think the problem is some people think CIR is equal to standing in line for an interview where they give you status if you say the right answers.

As much as I support LGBT rights, I just don't think Senator Schumer can include petitioning for a domestic partner in the language of CIR. As people have already said, gay marriage is not recognized on the federal level, so it wouldn't make sense. If such language were included and the bill actually passes, it will just get tied up in the Supreme Court about its constitutionality. I hope that the LGBT community can finally get the rights that they deserve, but it is a totally separate issue from CIR.

[mod edit]

Midtownhm-
I am getting the topic right as in why try to put federal acceptance of gay marriage/partners for immigration purposes when all it is going to do is make it harder to pass. You have to take when you can get first, before asking for more.
