I went to Australia to do a one-year Masters program recently and it is an awesome country. Tons of fun, people are really nice, and relaxed, and the girls are smoking hot. However, staying there requires that you study at least two years at an Australian college or have an employer sponsor you. Like I said, my course only lasted one year. I could have done another one-year course but it had to be at the same level of quality (Master's or graduate Diploma) and it had to be related to my career (engineering). I simply didn't have the means to do another Masters. The latter option is really hard, I applied to many companies but had no luck in getting sponsored.

Going to another country is a really good option; I really wish I could have stayed in Australia. Being free of this illegal status is such a relief. I feel like I actually had a life in Sydney.

Another option is to have at least one year of professional experience. I think I'll end up working in Mexico for one year and try to go back to Australia.

Lately I've been applying for work in Canada as well. Anyone know what the requirements are for Canada?

Ooo.. Australia.. I had a cousin that lived there for awhile.. Looks like a good option, as long as one can meet the requirements.. I'm gonna look into my options.. I need to have choices here!

I don't want us being undocumented to also not let us have a life.. I love America too, but when you're talking about the possibility of having to live in a country where you don't "belong" and having a chance to "live" your life with no limitations.. I'll take the living option..

I think many of us are scared of what we don't know about other places. All I know is, sometimes the "poorest" people live the happiest (in other countries) because they focus on the simple things in life.. Not saying we should all move somewhere else to live in poverty.. Just saying, that if we aren't allowed to live here the way we want.. we should be open to the possibilities that lie ahead of us.

I was just wondering, I might move to Mexico soon and wanted to know what the job prospects are like. Also, how did you manage to go to Australia to study was it complicated?

well the student visa process is fairly easy as long as you have a valid passport. the only thing that sucked is that i had to get a chest x-ray (if you are from certain countries you might not need this) and you can only get it from one of the doctors on their list so i had to travel a bit. other than that, it was sweet.

there were plenty of inexpensive 2-year courses you could do for the sake of applying for residency afterwards. i think they might have cracked down on that recently though.

yeahh im gonna be working abroad. Im leaving in 2 days. I am so excited to be finally out of shadows!

I don't think US has a strict immigration policy on where I am from, so I should be able to come back for visit after a year or so. My friend who overstayed his visa here was able to get a 10 year visiting visa without any problems 6 months after he went back. I hope i can do the same.

Cross fingers!

How come you never say where you're from? I'M CURIOUS!!! (Don't worry no one is gonna go take away your job over there) : ) Also... how long have you been out of status? Do you not have the ten year ban?
