People with degrees in Engineering (BS and/or MS).....

Are you licensed? Do you have jobs in your field? If not, what is holding you back from getting a job abroad? Are there legal obstacles? Are you currently looking for a job abroad and how is that process going? Also, what is your field, do you have a MS, and is your engineering school ranked in the top 50 (according to US news)?

My brother is considering a MS in bioengineering from a SUNY school (currently has a bs in computational biology) and would like to know if getting an engineering degree would be worth it.

Yeah, tell him to definitely get it. A MS in Enginn. is a great degree and the starting salary is great, not to mention if you have a MS degree you might even have a chance for legalization if you find a sponsor(but that depends on a lot of factors)

i just got my MS in industrial & systems engineering. it's nice.. I just got a job offer from a big US company abroad..but i wont be an engineer..ill be an analyst instead..engineering work is pretty boring to me.. so an analyst suits me better i think..

what do you think about electrical engineering? is it really really hard?

from what i heard, yes it is very hard. like me, u probably have to take a bunch of physics classes and one of them is electricity and magnetism.. In my experience, i knew EE will not be my major after that class because i freakin everything about it..

but i say go for it if you like it, otherwise u're wasting ur time. My undergrad was in Aerospace Engr.. i liked it, but I ended switching for grad bcuz a) all jobs in that field require citizenship and b) i found sth i like better.

so i guess my advice is that it doesn't matter what the trendy job/industry is, because at the end of the day, you won't work there for long if you hate your job. In that case, u're purely wasting your time.

I have a degree in computer engineering. We usually don't need special licenses to work in any firm unless it has to do with construction, mostly for mechanical engineers, in which case a professional engineering degree is preferred (obtained by taking the Fundamentals of Engineering exam).

Abroad opportunities are fruitful for engineers but only if you graduate from a well-known University. Your university has to be accredited by the board of Engineering and that foreign country also has to recognize engineers from the US. The latter will require documentations and such. You can see it as transferring a drivers license to another state, its not always easy.

I'm about to graduate high school and enter the university of illinois ranked #5 for engineering in the nation... I'm going to study Civil Engineering...
I'm afraid how i will do this if i'm undocumented after i graduate....
uhhh not to forget that my parents are paying for everything of tuition

Take things one day at a time. Just concentrate on graduating first. College, especially engineering field is hard as it is. If you have to think about the future, you have many options. Getting sponsored if you're really talented or immigrating to Canada, which they make it real easy if you have degrees like engineering and little experience. Four years is a long time, don't give up hope for Dream Act or CIR. One day at a time.

Sure, i have a question. Did you just talk to the graduate director and graduate dean about being admitted into the graduate program without having a social security number? Or how did you approach the situation. I'm curious because next semester i will obtain my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Eng. and wanted to pursue graduate studies in computer science. I have already picked up a CS advisor (a professor i knew fairly well), should i just talk to him and my graduate director about my situation of applying for graduate school without having a social security number?
