Please don't post stupid stuff like that!

WA is much closer to the border than NM!!! In WA, 3/4 of the state is under the jurisdiction of Border Patrol. In New mexico it's not even 1/5 and all of it is very close to the border; places you can easily avoid and have no reason to go to unless you are going to Mexico. Albuquerque, the capital, is about 250 miles from the border and it's fairly safe, but there are even other cities further north.

hey guys, I live in NY and I go to college in NY as well.....but for college I needed to commute and i was fortunate enough to have nice caring aunts and uncles who brought me to NM to get a license. Its very easy to get one but there are a couple things you are going to need.

ITIN is very important and they do look for that

Residency is the other important factor of getting a license

If you can prove that you live there and have an ITIN getting a license will be very easy.

And for a story.....I was rushing to class the other day and was going 75 on a 50 on the highway when I got pulled over by a NY State Trooper (crapped my pants) anyways I got two tickets one for speeding and another is a failure to change adress. The Trooper asked me why I had a NM license and i told him I was going to school here. He then asked me since when have I been here with the license and I told him August. Bc of the couple of months that I've "been" here he wanted me to change my license. But all of my family members told me to please not guilty bc it was my first offense......idk if im screwed for life bc i have to show up for court now.....smh.

Do you seriously think you are screwed because of a couple of tickets?

my suggestion: if anyone in our situation has a valid license from another state other than the one you are in, always say that you are visiting and have a story ready (only if they ask).
good luck drock226! maybe tell them that your permanent residence is in whatever state your license is from. if the ticket says you are going to school there, maybe make it seem as temporary of a situation as possible like it's only this semester. they shouldn't ask you to prove later on where you are going to school anyways.
good advise i got from my dad one time i was freaking out about people knowing my situation was "don't forget, they don't expect you to be undocumented so their perspective on you is different than what yours is." basically, since we seem american, people are generally not gonna be reading into things that may seem like obvious clues to us. we still have to be careful though!
