Alright, so I just finished my general ed and have that associates degree along with a speech communication associates degree. I know that both degrees are pretty much useless anywhere unless I transfer.

Lets say, everything fails here and I do in fact move back. How is it that their school's run? I know that they probably wont take for consideration anything that I have done here. But, are colleges in Mexico where you have to do all that general ed stuff before starting on your major. I just see myself not wanting to do school again if I have to go trough hell and take math and science courses all over again lol

I don't know how it works, but I am planning on going to a UNAM (my family lives minutes from the campus) next month to find out what the enrollment process would be.

Where in Mexico would you go to school?

I couldn't tell you for sure but I am also thinking of going to al U.N.A.M if all fails. Most of my family lives in Mexico City, which is where I'm originally from, and I could get you U.N.A.M's website if you wish. Also, have you heard of the Polytecnico or something like that? My cousins tell me it's a good university...well they both are.

I've heard of Politecnico.

Where in Mexico City are you from?

So you really are leaving next month Jolie Are you still considering that job with that company.

Anyways, I dont know where I would go. I would first have to find a place to stay and then go on from there. Is it true that Mexico has public universities ? Does that mean that they are free lol I would need help paying for school there but yeah any information you guys have would be great.

I am. And why the sad face? I'm excited.. Well, nervous/scared/excited! And what job? I haven't considered any job. I want to go to school, not work.

Yes, there are public universities. No, they aren't free but from what my family tells me, it's affordable.

I just meant what state/city? I'm sure it's the same everywhere in Mexico, but I'm only going to be visiting schools in Mexico City, since that's where I'll be staying.

My friend told me that I should go apply at a bunch of different places around the city, just to see if I'd get hired.

Yeah I recently talked to my cousins about the schools but I forgot to save the websites. I'm from Cuautepec Barrio Bajo, but if I do go back, then I'm moving down to Ixtapaluca, which is where my house is at.

Oh, awesome. Ixtapaluca is about an hour away from where I was born and my grandma's house.

When did you leave Mexico?

Monterrey (3hrs from the border) has good universities, it's also one of the third most important cities nationwide and you will find similar environments to those you find in the US, especially with the introduction of lots of American stores.
Anyway, from the top of my head I can remember these, the most commonly attended:
ITESM: Private uni. Expensive, they give out academic and sport scholarships. Has lots of collaboration with international universities. They might accept re-validate your degree or accept the classes that are cross cultural if you had a good GPA.
UANL: Public uni. Cheap but lots of people attend it, get a masters or a doctorate and you are safe.
UR: Private uni. Less expensive than ITESM. Lots of family and friends attended it.
TecMilenio: Private uni, owned by the same guys as ITESM. Just as, if not less expensive than UR. You graduate with a degree that screams I couldn't afford ITESM or I wasn't smart enough to get in LOL.

Really? That's cool

Well, we came here back in 2000 and have been living here ever since. To tell you the truth, I sometimes sit down and watch videos of my city and wonder what life would be like over there. You know, I'll actually be a citizen of a nation instead of hiding here all the time. The more I see and reminence, the more I want to go back. But for now, I just want a definite yes or no so I won't be wasting my time in a place I won't be appreciated and stay here until I turn 25 or something. It's a good thing I'm going to be a senior next year and will have time to plan things out if all else fails.

When did you leave?
