I talked to some friends last night and they get all mad at me when I say that I am going to leave. They give me the 'talk" that I already know. They say "why would you go back t o a country when people from over there die to be here." That its dangerous, will be working my ass off for a shitty wage, wont probably start school because I will be working and all this talk." I should be patient according to them but I think I've been patient enough.

When I ask people why they won't come here if things are too hard back there they always give me the same shitty responses, "I already have a job", "I have friends", "I have a loving family and girlfriend/boyfriend", "I like being able to do whatever I want without fear", "Life may be hard here but I like it this way, I am not starving and once in a while I buy things I like or go to concerts". I'd say their response is hypocritical but at the same time they aren't.
Regardless of how crappy their lives are over there, at least they have the freedom to move around and grow, they don't have to put up with our kind of stress which is way worse than theirs. The main worry they have over there may be money, but money can be managed in a way that all your expenses are covered, you can apply for loans to pay off something, go to school, etc. Over here we have to put up with the stress of being pulled over, getting a job or finding a less dehumanizing one, finding a way to go to college, breaks don't really apply to us, life is definitely shitty for an illegal in the US.

I'm sure there are good ones and bad ones, just like in the USA.

I'm aware of the whole "Mexico is a shithole" image that people here have (including a lot of undocumented Mexican teens), but surely there are qualified professionals in the country of Mexico. They have engineers, doctors, lawyers, and etc. there, just as they do here. The number of them might be disproportionately low, but the opportunity does exist.

And the truth is that no matter what , it IS your home country (if you are from there) so it's not "betrayal to America" to have some sense of pride in that place, whether it be a shithole or not.

My BF kinda goes a little crazy when I tell him I wanna move to Europe, IF things don't work out here... Take it as a sign they don't really wanna lose you! (And maybe they should run for president or something to change things and let you stay.. ; )

There's good and bad in every country.. But the reason given in the posts before me about having a job, family, ect... That is so true!

Would you rather live in the "Land of Opportunity" with little chance for growth in the future..
Orrr.. Be free! Have family.. And be one of the people who DOES succeed. : ) .......I thought so.

Oh..did I mention you can also travel in your home country.

That's what I'm talking about. More and more each day, I begin to doubt this nation can offer me a good future. I'm from Mexico and I'd rather be free, like hef107 said, than being here in a static state. Europe sounds nice, but like I said, UNAM sounds good to me. Especially after that youtube video (submit name here) posted.

Then again, that's just me.

Best advise i can give is to talk to students, talk to your cousins, aunts, uncles, anyone who you've got down there who's been at whichever college you are considering, we are the least qualified ppl to give you advise on the matter. Go look at online chats of said institutions and ask questions.

I'm not going to sugar coat it because well, I'd rather have useful advise.

Public universities are for the most part inexpensive enough that anyone in Mexico can afford them, UNAM probably being amonst the cheapest in the country (25 mexican cents per year (not joking)). They are however, held to a similar standard to Public universities in the US.

While UNAM would be in my list, it certainly wouldn't be the only one there, since it's extremely competitive. The entrance exams for public universities test on subjects learned in the prepa level (hs) and I would be extremely surprisied if spanish is not one of the subjects. Be advised that Math in high schools go all the way to Calc 2 college equivalent of over here, so most subjects covered here in high school are a step further over there. Expect at least differential calc on entrance exams. Study guides are available for purchase or download on pdf everywhere....here's a math one http://www.monografias.com/trabajos6...s-cuatro.shtml

If you are still reading, there are different tests administered (with a range in difficutly) depending of whether you attended a public or private hs, what degree you are seeking, or if you're an international student. To be honest, if there's a chance of greasing someone's palm, it might be worth it just to get in, it's up to you of course to stay in.

Private universities, I'd look into TEC de monterrey, every bachelor's degree they offer is valid in the US and Canada (which means it's tough as nails compared to many public universities in the US), but tuition can be relatively high (i forget if it's 3 or 4 grand a semester). Of course I come from the northern states, so there's a little bias for that particular private institution.

here's a rundown of costs of universities in the DF region: (be aware that some are "'universities" like the university of phoenix is a "'university''
http://www.remo.ws/revista/n6/n6-escamilla1.htm

For the most part I'd say language is going to be the biggest problem getting in (if you feel strong w/other subjects), since you'd be a citizen and they wouldn't have to pamper you like they would an internatinal student. There may be programs that are aware of ppl in our situation (mexican kids brought up abroad) but really don't know.

To me, it seems easier to transfer out to an English speaking country as a foreign (Mexican student). Of course money becomes an issue at that point.

Don't want to discourage you, but be conscious that it's still college we are talking about here, and the media seems to portray a Mexico that is rundown by violence, poverty and corruption, and we may somehow perseve that from a lackluster education of its citizens, but that's far from reality.

PS: didn't feel like fixing grammar/sentence structure so deal w/it.
