What's up folks?? I was wondering what all of you are studying and what career paths you're interested in. Those in college, what's your major and high schoolers, what are you interested in? Maybe we can help each other out by giving valuable advice. I'll start...I'm about to graduate in December with a BBA in Accounting. Are there any aspiring CPAs out there??

I am also an aspiring CPA and will be graduating with my Bachelor's in a month. For obvious reasons, I cannot work for a firm even though I have excellent grades and extracurricular activities. I still, however, dream of someday working for a Big 4 firm. For now, I plan on getting whatever job I can get. When the DREAM Act or CIR passes, I will probably go back for my Master's, since big firms don't like hiring people who have been out of school for a while.

Hey socaldreamer, Yes, the opportunities seem endless in the field of Accounting. The opportunity of working for one of the Big 4 firm's is a great addition to any resume. The only obstacle is that we need two years of work experience in order to qualify to get the CPA license. I'm pretty sure we can sit for the CPA with 120 hours or somewhere around there..Its just that you need 2 years work experience and152 credits done in order to get the license.

Oh absolutely not..Accounting is a profession which has promising growth for future graduates. A degree in Accounting ensures a student vast knowledge about the financial sector. Accountants will always be in demand as the FASB's GAAP and IFRS converge for one uniform standard.

Do you think a minor an accounting is a good idea?

Well, Sure if you want to have basic knowledge of Accounting and analysis of important elements of the financial statements. But, the thing is that if you do 24 credits in Accounting, you can be eligible to take the CPA exam. A minor would leave you short of the 24 credits. However, a minor would definitely give you the skills to be able to identify important elements of various financial statements and ratios. If you're really interested in your introductory Accounting courses, I would highly recommend you go for the major. What's your major currently?
