How closely do they check? Is it just a "hey the number matches the name you're in!" kinda thing? Me and my dad have the exact same name so I was kind of wondering. I've always wanted to serve and actually tried joining up after high school and the recruiter sent me to the Social Security card office and obviously that wasn't going anywhere. I just feel so useless at the moment and at least going into the military would mean actually getting somewhere in life and I'd actually be doing some good. :/

I gotta feeling that if you knew the right people within the military, they could bypass the status requirement. I mean, it's probably just a matter of checking the "yes" box. I've also thought of joining using other means, but staying out of risky moves. If you join the way you described and even if they don't find out at first, you could get dishonorably discharged, deported and even end up in prison for both 'crimes'. I wonder if anyone's ever tried writing to their congress men to see if they can be of any help. I'm looking into that myself. Also, it's not too clear to me when they would consider your status as pending, therefore, allowed to join...

2 posts, and they're both regarding fraud... In all honesty, no one here can know for sure, but you should never do such a thing.

I suggest not to do it unless you'd like to find out what the inside of an ICE office looks like.
