Texas College Question

I applied to UT Austin and got accepted and they labeled me as an international student because of my lack of status. So now there saying I have to go to an Immigration Briefing and Check In, so I'm wondering if there is anyone here who's gone to UT or has any experience with going to a texas college that can help or give me some advice.

Should I go to the meeting and what should I expect from it?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Did you sign up as a sb1528 student and sign the affidavit?

Yeah I did all that and I have in state tuition but they say I'm required to go

I didn't have to go to a immigration briefing/check in at UH. Is it on campus?

Yea. I'm not sure they fully understand that im undocumented even though I told them that, because they said the meeting would give me "information about immigration issues (e.g. if you plan to travel -what docs to take etc, maintaining your status), working issues (are intl students allowed to work etc), general information etc." And all of those aren't really relevant to me

Where you labeled an International Student, because I think thats why they're saying I have to go, so I can " clear [my] International Bar and prepare to register".

Yeah, you are still labeled an international student, but they normally exempt you from taking part in many of the required things international students are suppose to do.

Maybe UT does it differently. Did you contact the international student's office or admissions? Maybe contact the international student's office and tell them you shouldn't be an ordinary international student.

Hmm... when I was accepted to UT Austin 2 years ago, they just labeled me as Texas resident.
I ended up going to UT Dallas, but I'm sure they work under almost the same standards.
Go talk with the admissions department to make sure that you didn't miss any forms that you needed to turn in.

Yeah same here. . I went to UT San Antonio, and was labeled an International Student.. but I never was asked to attend any briefing. I was however, paying in-state tuition and that's all I really cared about. You might want to talk to the head of admissions.. I did. Just discussing my situation with her seemed to make things easier. Every time after that if I had a problem, I went to her b/c she knew my situation and it made things so much simpler.
