Long story short, the stupid lady we bought my car from wrote the wrong address on the DMV registration form. Because of this, the registration renewal form did not come in the mail, and we cant renew the registration online. We went back to the dealership and she told us we need to go to the DMV to have the address changed to the right one. I've been checking online, and it seems they will ask for a license... Has anyone dealt with this?

This is in California, by the way.

Thanks guys.

So does this mean that you've had the car for a year and it is now expiring? When I bought my car, I placed the registration under my uncles name during the first year. I renewed the registration myself at the DMV last year, and was not asked for any I.D. My registration just expired again last month and I'm currently putting the car under my USC little brother who hit 18 recently. I was at the DMV last week doing so, and they didn't require his presence or his I.D. Just his signature on a few papers. I have to return with a smog check, but I don't think they'll ask for an I.D. since the registration was paid for and I was issued a permit.

Here in Texas, the dealership can fill out a form requesting a change of address. Either way usually they just require that person's ID and insurance, half of the time it depends who you get at the courthouse.

okay so basically what we did was go to the dmv and they gave us a form to mail out, the form asked for a license # but we just left that blank. then later that day we found out that some check cashing places deal with the dmv registration as well, they just charge a convenience fee as well, so we ended up going there and right away they gave us the registration, we couldve changed the adress there as well but the lady told us that since we had already mailed the form that they couldn't do it anymore. go figure, if only we knew earlier.
