hey everyone.

I'm 22, will be 23 next month. I didn't realize that being undocumented was a big deal until my senior year in high school. Teachers and students talked about college, fafsa, etc but that didn't stop me from applying.

I received my BA from UC Davis about a year ago(going into my 2nd year off), but for the last month or two, I haven't being doing much. Through my time off, I volunteered, did internships, and applied for a masters. I have to find a job that will hold me up for at least a few months b/c my parents can't really provide more financial support. i thank them for that support during those 4 years of college, but was it worth it? I would say so, and my parents would agree with me as well.

Well, some might say that anyone can go to a UC and live off your parents. Yes, but that is why they brought me to this country. They have jobs like any other undocumented does; construction worker and a housekeeper.

Let's just hope the dream act passes; therefore, it'll encourage our loved ones and friends to go back to school.

peace

It's interesting to read some of these comments regarding facebook. Myself, I have opted to not open an account as I believe it would be uncomfortable to get in touch with old friends/acquaintances and discuss our lives post high school. Although I believe the majority of them would be empathetic to my cause, part of me prefers to avoid the pity and justification for my current standing. I do not envy what others currently are and have, but the opportunities offered to them due to a piece of paper.

I'll be turning 24 this year. My parents have been urging me to find a suitable partner and get married as that would resolve my situation. But the things is, it's difficult to approach girls when you have no confidence and self esteem? How can you love another when you cannot love yourself? bundle my situation with shyness and loner tendency and you have a recipe for disaster.

I've completed 2 years of school in CC but have not transferred due to personal and monetary issues. I think it's a good start for those dreamers looking to attend school but cannot afford the higher cost of a university.

I do not post in here that often, but since everyone seemed to be sharing their stories, I thought I'd share mine.

*end ramble*
Dude! We have a lot in common. I still remember cosa, I'm also turning 24 this summer, I feel the same way about facebook, and I have the same self-esteem issuses. But you got me at the college thing. I still need to do that.
On another note. Common guys you don't have to live like an undocumented. You CAN drive! You guys seriously don't know how to put a car under your name? And just drive really safe, I've been driving since the 11th grade. You CAN get a good paying job! Yeah you might not like it, because it wasn't your first choice. Jobs like line cooks can pay up to 14 an hour. Some might not want to do all those, because they'll think their breaking the law, but I say fuck it. We need to take a chance. Ooh, I'm not saying to break break the law. Just find ways around it. If anybody disagrees, well you have every right to, but I'm just saying you don't have to live like some undocumented who came to this country yesterday lol.

You are qualified even if you are over 35 as long as you have your degree on the day Obama signs Dream Act under the Retroactive Benefits provision of Article 6 in the Senate Bill.

It is just that there may not be that many illegals over 35 with a degree.

Are you a racial minority though? If you are, you're more likely to get pulled over for no reason than a white person. (Maybe it depends on where you live, I don't know). It's happened to my dad a couple of times, though luckily he has a valid DL .

man, some of you guys are some real DREAMACT OG's. Im only 18 so i cant say i feel the same grief you guys do. But what i dont understand is why some of you act like if being illegal means you cant live your life at all. I have a job, car, lots of friends, i dont see my legal, or illegal status as a burden bit as more of as my drive that that keeps me going, makes me work harder than my lazy ass USC friends. they take everything for granted. But oh well.
