I know most of us here oppose this law that would allow racial profiling which would lead to many deportations based on many illegal immigrants living in Arizona. But who believes here, just a little that it might help the state of the economy in the states just a little? Whether it's a step in the right direction, we're still unsure. For the most part, I think a reactionary movement is underway cause our Latino community has been insulted and injured with this new Arizona Law. We're already hearing of other states beginning to enact the same attitude towards the bill.
Well, my main question (I'm having trouble putting this together cause I don't want to offend any of you)
But do you think this new law may actually be good, not for just for either side of the argument. Both for both, in the long run? I want to open a discussion so we could get insight into other possibilities that may help us resolve this immigration issue.

It won't, and it's been proven. Lots of Latinos in AZ had fled out already even before the bill has been implemented, not back to their own country, but possibly in other states. AZ's economy is already suffering....business had closed down left and right, even the public transportation system had cut down routes because of lack of funding....so I would have a hard time finding sources that claims this bill will EVER improve the economy.

Yeah, I agree with dream14. It will be terrible for AZ and the states that take them in. Imagine losing all the federal funding for schools, rent for the slumlords, business in stores catering to the Hispanic community, labor for menial work in AZ, etc. It seems to me this can only hurt AZ. On the other side, trying to absorb people migrating somewhere else could only be a little less bad.

Whether this helps immigration in the long run is another question where it will depend on how things develop. I am feeling more and more that this will end up going all the way to the Supreme Court, which is so conservative you never know what could happen.

All it does for me is underline how hopeless it makes one feel when others hold all the cards and power and are so obviously irrational and unfair about the policies they make.

It will surely fail. It was a huge HUGE mistake on their part.

Considering the boycotts going on from many cities, artists, and soon, the impact has already been majorly affecting them.

Funny how you said that. Not long ago, Brewer endorsed a bill to raise taxes so they have enough funding for local schools--for children, of course--a few weeks after sb1070 passed. There's nothing bad about the bill, but it proves how desperate they are to even consider mooching off extra cash to residents just to keep local schools going.

it passed, 'cos even the residents recognize that need.
Brewer celebrated victory that night they announced it.

My point being that I think with this new bill in effect, i think once and for all U.S put out the message clearly to those that want to migrate to U.S illegally. That they could no longer risk to take a chance and come across here illegally, but they must take the legal route to enter the country and stay here. In all honesty, my main concern is overpopulation it's beginning to be a worldwide issue pretty soon. Much like "Global Warming" is one of top most concerns. I have no expertise in the field whatsoever but I think soon enough it'll be necessary for a reform on our urbanization plans.
