So i had a talk with my mother today. I told her how i didn't want to go back to school this fall cause its very expensive....over $1000 for ONE class...so I told her i didn't want to go back and she started to give me this super long speech....I have been with my boyfriend for a little over two years and he knows my situation we have talked about getting married but I just don't know what to do. I really love him and he feels the same about me. I don't want to rush things because I have always wanted a huge wedding...i just don't know what to do........grrrrrrrrrrrr.....im so aggravated! i wish they would just pass the Dream Act already, then i wouldnt have to be stressing over this...

what are your thoughts on marriage??

I know how you're feeling. I've been with my girlfriend for 3 years, and we've talked about getting married as sort of a backup plan. As much as I love her, I don't want to rush into marriage as we're both just in our early 20s. I also know that she wants (and deserves) a huge wedding with all our friends and family.

I'm waiting for at least 1 more year to see what happens with DREAM. If nothing happens by next summer, then we will seriously consider making our backup plan our actual plan.

Marriage should be based upon the fact you want to marry the person, not to gain the benefit.Any relationship will be tested with not only its issues but also by USCIS twice to see if it is real.

Is your bf someone you see yourself spending the rest of your life (or a really long time) with? How compatible are you guys? If you feel like you have a good relationship and that you could make it work for a long time, then go for it.

I don't know what your views on marriage are, but for me, it's just about what feels right. Before meeting my husband, I thought marriage was stupid and vowed I would NEVER get married. Look at me now. :P While my views on marriage haven't changed much, we have an awesome relationship and that is all that matters to me. It just feels right.

To me, having a huge wedding celebration sounded awful. I never dreamed of spending thousands of dollars on party that would last one day, or on having to deal with a bunch of people congratulating me like getting married is the ultimate accomplishment or something. My relationship is personal and there was no reason to involve others in it. In fact, only my parents and brother witnessed my "wedding." They would've never forgiven us if we eloped. But that's just me.

You mentioned you want a huge wedding. Can you afford it? And if not, are you willing to postpone it until you can afford it? A lot of people have a small get together when they get married and then later on have their "dream wedding" on their first anniversary (or whenever they can afford it).

We kind of rushed into getting married (Literally.. we actually ran to the court house from the mall.. hahaha) for a couple of reasons, but neither of us regrets it. It's been a little over two years, and we're happy.

It's really up to you. Do what feels right.

Also, if you decide to get married, just be prepared for that annoying "when are you going to have a baby?" question.

PS- Shut up, feenmi.

I'd much rather die a painful death than to get married. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm still young

My thoughts on marriage:

BTW: Anyone heard some new law about allowing legalization of ppl married to US residents? Apparently they only need to have been residents for one year. Mom was telling me about some lawyers talking about it on tv, but it seemed a little far fetched.

Lol awesome movie. Oh and i wouldn't marry without a "prine up" (sp??)
I wouldn't marry by the church, why pay any church thousands of dollars when i can do it anywhere else for a lot cheaper. Only a civil marriage.

I can honestly say that I can see myself with this guy for a very long time, we have an amazing relationship and it does feel right to me, I guess its just a matter of figuring out when...

About the wedding, we definitely can't afford it now but we've talked about getting married in court and having a small celebration with pretty much only our parents there and then save up for an actual wedding. As much as i'd want to just do the big church wedding i know i have to wait for that.

We emailed an immigration lawyer today and he said it would cost $1500-$3500 depending on the situation, so we definitely have to save up some money before getting anything done. How much did you end up paying? If you don't mind me asking.
