Seeing that a lot of people want to go to a university in the UK or Canada and/or immigrate really need to look at their immigration websites. I can tell you that if you are an engineer, you're pretty much out of luck if you want to apply as a skilled worker. There are too many workers. In fact, I plan on getting a Master's Degree in Computer Science and none of the jobs I can get with that will let me settle in Canada or the UK. But get this, a plumber can immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker, can you believe that? Don't think that just because you have a PHD you'll be able to go there. The UK and Canada will easily give you a temporary worker visa to gain experience and then apply to settle as a skilled worker if your occupation is a skilled worker.

This is the list for Canada if you want to self-petition:

Quote:
0631 Restaurant and Food Service Managers
0811 Primary Production Managers (Except Agriculture)
1122 Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management
1233 Insurance Adjusters and Claims Examiners
2121 Biologists and Related Scientists
2151 Architects
3111 Specialist Physicians
3112 General Practitioners and Family Physicians
3113 Dentists
3131 Pharmacists
3142 Physiotherapists
3152 Registered Nurses
3215 Medical Radiation Technologists
3222 Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists
3233 Licensed Practical Nurses
4151 Psychologists
4152 Social Workers
6241 Chefs
6242 Cooks
7215 Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades
7216 Contractors and Supervisors, Mechanic Trades
7241 Electricians (Except Industrial & Power System)
7242 Industrial Electricians
7251 Plumbers
7265 Welders & Related Machine Operators
7312 Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics
7371 Crane Operators
7372 Drillers & Blasters - Surface Mining, Quarrying & Construction
8222 Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service
All other jobs will require you to have an employer to petition you. You can spend 3 more years in Canada with a temporary worker visa. So you have like 10 years to make a Canadian fall in love with you and get married if you don't have a job in that list lol. The UK has very similar rules with a slightly different list jobs.

Apply for those scholarships. Plus, they only give loans if you have an american citizen with good credit sign for you.

Edit: Remember, the temporary work visa will allow you to work in ANYTHING without restrictions. But, if you can, work in a job that's in the list above so you can settle to live there.

Edit: In canada, total costs for tuition, food, where to live and all that: $35,000-$60000
In the UK: $20,000-$40000
(Yes, I did convert currencies)

Edit: All Canada and UK universities have slightly different ways on how to apply to their university. This info is located on their websites. For entry requirements, you will have to look at the US requirements and you will most likely have to apply from your home country (still researching this). Once accepted, you can apply for a student visa, you're university should help you out a bit.

Edit: If you're from a country that's in the European Union, you're tuition in the UK is a LOT cheaper. Like 50% off. Had to be in the European Union before 2005 or something like that don't remember and it's LOADS easier to immigrate there in the end.

Edit: If you're from a country that's part of the Commonwealth of Nations, it's a lot easier to get into both the UK and Canada.

Any other information I should add? Post below.

I spent days researching this in the summer. It looks like it's easier to go to the UK. If you, in the end, want to return to North America, if you become a UK citizen it is very easy to immigrate to Canada from there because they're both part of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The only catch here for me is that I don't have one year work experience, which is a requirement. If I could get to work here in my field, then I wouldn't have to immigrate to Canada. Lol. I did days of research too.

So if my country is part of the common wealth of nations then I would have to leave the United States and apply from my home country in order to gain entry in the UK or Canada? And if I get residence there, would I be able to come back to or visit the US?

You still have to wait out your ban (if you have accumulated one.) It's not automatic acceptance either, it's just a bit easier.
