Actually, some might vote against the bill.

Senator Reid is trying to attach both the DREAM Act and the "Don't ask, don't tell" repeal to the Defense Authorization bill (as amendments). From the Republicans' perspective, he politicized the bill and made it a bit controversial. For instance, Senator McCain said he would vote against the bill if the bill included the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell" although he didn't specify his position on the addition of the DREAM Act. But, since I do not know much about how many Senators (especially Republicans) support the repeal, I'm not sure how it will affect the prospect of the passage of the bill. But, I think there should be enough votes to pass the repeal (just my guess).

The addition of the DREAM Act to the bill is more important to us, anyway. We don't know exactly how many votes we have. And, this could be our last chance for the next few years as more anti-immigration Republicans are expected to win seats in the Congress.

Guys, if you have not been making calls, THIS IS THE TIME to do it. Our LIFE depends on this and I hope you've grown mature enough to realize this.

However, I would not waste a minute of sleep thinking about next Tuesday. If you have been following the DA/CIR scene for a long time like many of us, we have been lied to/disappointed by these assholes we call Politicians over and over and over and over.

Reid is fighting a tough battle in his state for the upcoming re-election. As someone pointed out on this forum, there is a very good chance that Reid KNOWS that he doesn't have the votes to get this attached to the Defense Bill. There is a good chance that Reid is doing this just so he can say "Hey my fellow pro-immigration voters! I've tried to pass the DA but the Republicans just did not want to pass it. Vote for me this November and I will keep trying!"

But all that aside, PLEASE, keep calling and calling and calling!

What does this mean?

It means that the DREAM Act still needs 60 votes to pass. We still need 60 senators to say yes when it comes time for the bill to be attached to the defense bill.

What can you do to help?

We need calls right now. We need to flood offices with calls in support of the DREAM Act. Currently we are being beat by anti-immigrants 10
calls to 1. That means for every 1 call you make in support 10 people are calling against the DREAM Act.

TAKE ACTION NOW AND CALL IN SUPPORT OF THE DREAM ACT:

Dial: 1-888-254-5087

Ask for the following people and leave a message with their office.

Call-in Script for Republicans:

“Hi I am calling to ask that Senator _______ vote for the DREAM Act. CALLED ALL OF THEM? CALL AGAIN AND HAVE FIVE FRIENDS DO THE SAME THING.

Can we get some zip codes for these areas? Or does our regular ones work regardless of the state senator we might be calling?

If you do not live in those states you can just give your actual zip code and tell them you are calling "in solidarity" with the residents of that state.

Yeah! Would it have more effect if we give one of their local zip codes? I could compile something and thanks for answering.

Yes it would. They pay more attention to the people of their state, obviously! So if you could put something like that together, with 3 or 4 ZIP codes for each one that would be great.

You can amend a bill, but you can't amend an amendment. If Dream Act is attached as an amendment to Defense Bill, the language of the Act will be preserved. :P
You can amend an amendment as well.

Best news ever. DREAM act might just happen. I am so happy.
