Hi...I should introduce myself..shouldn't I?

I came to America from South Korea with my parents when I was 14 years old.
I wasn't sure what was going on...my parents told me and my sister that we are going to visit our relatives in US.

Well...I did have some idea, because I knew that my parents sold our house.
But I still wanted to believe my parents' story really badly.

They did have plans to get me and my sister legalized....However...
...Let me make it short by saying that so many lawyers have scamed our parents and took away me and my sister's future.

From then I went middle school->high school->college.

I graduated from Northeastern University within 15% in my class...Administrative member of Honor Society, researched under professor, and did so many volunteer work.
I only graduated with GPA of 3.6, but I would like to pointed out that it's mostly because of my freshman and sophomor grades.

My senior years GPA was 3.8&4.0 for semester respectively when I was taking all high level biology class...

So why did my grade low(..)?

I was depressed...
I thought I didn't have chance to get into any college because of my status, and I was too afraid to ask anyone about it.
I cried a lot and was so afraid in those initial years in college that once I've been found out, I would be surely be kicked out.
So..it's little wonder about how my GPA turned out to be...;

I actually internally transferred into nursing during freshman year (another distraction, but I wasn't able to do co-op job (working at hospital-which was required here) so I had to make-up some excuse and internally transferred back into biology(...).

I think little of me died during those period...where my nursing co-op advisor pried into my status, called lawyers, asking to speak with my parent...
It still hurts to think about it.
I know she didn't mean any harm...but I seriously thought about giving her nasty present+letter at the day of my graduation.
(I didn't through....lazyness won)

All my friend envied me for graduating with good GPA....
But the sad thing is...with all my credential...because of my status...it doesn't mean anything.

Only 6.7% of the world has a college degree
Northeastern University...is 455
Apparently there are about 17036 University in the world.
So....in this world...I am...
[.15*(455/170376)]*.067=2.68e-5

I'm sure so many people are just like me here;
...and I don't recommend calculating like I did..
It's a great way to get depressed and feel sorry for yourself

I tried for dental school....and got only one interview (from boston university).
I was in the last group of interviewers, and it was apparent when I talked to everyone that I was only one who are illegal. (Everyone else was discussing their drivers license, travel experience, and work experience)
I did not get in.

I'm still not sure if it was my credential or my status that affected my admission.
(Status...I'm actually sure of it. Because I shared my credential-my status at studentdoctor network, and people who answered was very suprised at the lack of interviews I got.)

I was ok, after graduation during first summer.
Denial is what got me through I think =_=;:

But now...my friend are studying at university...my sister attending school...
And I'm at home.

I will admit I did have a few suicidal thoughts here and there...;
But I know I'm better then that.
Parden my language, but I'm not stupid enough to actually commit suicide.
Nor am I just going to sit here and feel sorry for myself.

Right now I am looking into 4 tihng.
1)Persuing master degree here and going back to Korea for job
2)Waiting for Dream Act
3)Apply to Korean Dental School
4)Perhaps looking into Nursing program...but I don't know about this. I have been hurt too badly before...I would hate to go through that again. Plus what am I going to do with degree? I can't work. (This plan lies heavily on #2)

I think-although it looks like we don't have much to look forward to-we should always be hopeful and happy-go-lucky.
Compared to so many others people in the world...we are blessed.
We really are. Math don't lie. (Although it was simple and crud one

Depressed and wallowed up in self pity is the last thing I want to do and I don't think anyone would like to go down that path either.

Thanks for reading(?) at my rambling.
I guess I just needed to talk to someone.
(Because none of my friend knows aobut my status...I haven't been able to share with anyone other then my family.)

Hi,

Thanks for sharing. I tried to apply to med school, but my status affected me as well ! So, you're not alone

So, instead of sitting home and wasting my time, I go back to school to do a master degree in biology, hoping that Dream Act will pass soon

You can read my story as well if you want:
http://dreamact.info/forum/showthread.php?t=18886

Anyways, don't worry. You are not too old yet. At least wait until you get your master's or bachelor's, and if things still don't look then you can decide on weather you leave or not.

Now, how badly do you want the dream act to pass? If you really do, then please help us making calls, faxes, and email too senators and tell them to vote yes on the dream act!

Here is a list and instruction:
http://dreamact.info/forum/showthread.php?t=18715

If you decide to help, thanks. The opposition is on the move and also making calls against the Dream Act. Don't let them win.
