Ok please help!

I was reading the Do's and Dont's, and I guess the details of the Dream Act. I came to the US when I was 11 I'm 23. I graduated High School in 2005, and I went to college in my community for one semester because for 3 clases I payed over 1000$ (as an out of state student)

As illegals We can qualify for Scholarships given by private parties and We can pay my schooling (If We have the money) to continue our education. I know people that go to private universities and get everything paid for.

My concern is: If the dream act goes through, We will become LEGAL which is the BIGGEST accomplishment, BUT we would not qualify for FINANCIAL AID and the IN-STATE Tuition status still debatable. So we still have to look for our own ways to pay, right? Probably loans (without having credit history), scholarships, etc. Well one of the requirements (if I read correctly) to keep our 6yr Conditional Residency is to go to school 2 full years in those 6 to get our Permanent Residency. What if you don't have the money to pay for school? the credit history to have a loan and pay for school? what if you are not a straight A student and have a 4.0gpa and are unable to continue your education?

I wanna be a Nanotech Engineer and if I get a job saying 12$ and hour I don't think I will be able to cover my tuition, and where does that leave me? I would be scared to death, if I'm at risk of loosing my Conditional Residency.

Am I missing something? Does someone else understand me? Do you guys get what I'm going with this? Well thanks !!

You can get private scholarships and private loans. I talked to admissions at UGA and they said that under the DREAM Act, you can do work programs through the school to help pay off your tuition. From what I understand, and I could be wrong, but by having the proper status, you can apply for an out-of-state waiver if the school offers that and then pay in-state tuition.

I'd rather do private loans and scholarships to be honest. It sucks being held back from goals as an undocumented status.

If it comes down to cheaper educational benefits vs legal status

I know what I would choose

As a permanent resident, you will have access to scholarships that I did not have. The only scholarship I could access as an F-1 student was a merits based one awarded to top 5% students, and I got that by studying to death.

If you are not gonna try to get scholarships, which you will have plenty if you are now a permanent resident, through academic excellence, then you don't deserve to benefit under Dream Act.

I never said I was not gonna try to get scholarships, I actually qualify for some right now but I can't get them for my status. I was just wondering about the rest NOT JUST ME, this is about everyone.. I know people that deserve it probably more than you and me, but simply they are not Book smart, and do not have the grades that probably you and I have. But they are brilliant! So its just one more question out of the bunch.

I don't think you should go assume and say that there's PEOPLE THAT DON'T DESERVE THE DREAM ACT! not everyone is like you. And academic Excellence is not the only way to achieve your dreams.

I understand your concerns anmaseno, but I'm confident that if you've made it this far, then money for school later will be "easier" to deal with than what we've been dealing with for many years. I believe that there will be more doors opened than closed if/when DA passes.
