Wouldn't Graham support it also since now it is a stand-alone?

I've been critical about having the Dream Act as a stand alone bill before, and I still am. I want us to be optimistic but please realize that this is not any better than having it as an amendment.

Republicans might vote against it because:
-"We should be focusing on the economy instead"
-"This should be part of CIR instead"
-"This is amnesty"

Republicans might support the bill, but wish to:
-Add more restrictions to the bill
-Water it down
-Introduce ridiculous amendments meant to embarrass Democrats for voting against them in an election year.

That's not to say this is not good news. We need to keep the same momentum as we had during this last week. A stand alone bill doesn't make things any easier, therefore we must have the same amount of energy as before. Strike that, more energy than before.

Not to mention the so-called home country you speak of is not the home country for the majority of DREAM Act beneficiaries.

The United States of America is my home country.

Yes, the only way to avoid such procedures is if you are already Grandfathered...

=D OMG this is such great news. It NEEDS to pass. Its a dream of mine to join the US Army. The Guard came to visit my Community College today, some of my friends and I talked to them for close to an hour asking questions, discusing military life.

Lets get to calling NOW doesn't matter if its brought up now or in lame duck, we need to make sure senators know what we want. When calling republicans DO NOT say it will give us citizenship, specify it will give us legal permanent residency if we comply with the bill's conditional and selective requirements.

Bennett (R-Utah) said he will, just not on the defense bill, so maybe we can convince him to keep his word. He used to be a Nay.

I bet her own PARENTS who are immigrant-Filipinos are ashamed to have created her!
Isn't she an anchor baby? lmfao

Fixed.

It looks like everyone is going to have to enter the bill number for the search in order to look it up. The search times out every 30 minutes, so links are pretty much useless.

Sorry for the negativity guys, but I feel that as an amendment, the DREAM Act had a better chance at passing. I was fearing it to come to the floor as a stand-alone.

Note: All these Democrats voted YES for cloture:

Baucus - Montana
Tester - Montana
Landrieu - Louisiana
Nelson - Nebraska
Conrad - North Dakota
Dorgan - North Dakota

The Defense Bill in essence diluted "Amnesty" concerns and those Democrats voted in favor of the DREAM as an amendment. As a stand-alone these Democrats are not ones one can count to vote for cloture nor to support the bill when it comes up for a vote.

Add in that the President is a Democrat, this year is an election year, and I highly doubt the Republicans will put partisanship aside to support the DREAM - meaning we won't be able to pick up the minimum 8 Republican votes to make up for the NO vote in the Democrat camp.
