Don't know what to do need help

Hi guys last night I was involve in a car accident. My friend and I was driving then a car showed up on the wrong lane, then his car smashed ours then the guy just drove away, we called the police right away and they were able to find the guy, it wasn't that bad but we got minor injuries my friend already got checked, I haven't because of not having a medical insurance,and my friend is planning sue the guy and he told me to do it too but i'm afraid about it because they might find out about my status but I also want the guy to pay for what he did.

Sue the guy too. You have the same rights just as the rest of the people.

I wanted to but my mom told me to keep out of it because she doesn't want me to have records and stuff,and I can't go with my friend either because I don't want him to find out about my status so I'm all alone, I want to do something but don't know where to start don't have much money for a lawyer either.

Just say you got no money for the lawyer, budgets tight.

You can when I was younger, underage I was in a car accident. Well my back was injured from it so I had to do physical therapy for a few months well they sued the insurance company and I was able to get a small settlement $3000 or something and the lawyer takes pay from that. Well your legal status doesn't matter so just go talk to a lawyer because some don't charge anything upfront unless they get paid. You have rights, don't be scared, the only problem would be telling your friend about your status.
