Hi, guys! I want to open a bank account in my name. Obviously I'm undocumented so that is my problem. I have no SSN either, nor do I have an ID issued by the government. Is it possible to still do it? I have money and I do work, under the table, of course. My mother has offered to open one in her name, but I would prefer to open it in my name because I make money online and get checks with my name on it. I do trust her and all though. Please let me know what banks you use and what documentations are necessary to open a bank account. And is it also possible for me to get a debit card from the bank (not credit card, cuz I honestly dont want that). Also let me know which banks are good for undocumented people and which I should stay away from, if there is such thing.

Here is what I DO have:

I have a tax ID
I have a passport (no Visa, from my country of Orgin)
I have a college student ID that is still valid
I have high school ID that is not valid

the thing you listed is all you need. and maybe a proof of address too.
Then you can just open a student account.

I have 2 different student checking and credit card. 1 from Bank of America, another from Chase.
And the thing you listed is all I provided to get my bank accounts.

Thanks for responding! How do I show proof of my address? I get no bills, and everything is in my mother or father's name. I get magazines and buy things online. should I just get a few letters stuff I get in the mail and take it to the bank?

Do you have your official high school or college transcript? Transcript should have your address on it.
They accept that as proof of address. Or a US Driver's License with address on it

Try to look for the most official looking letter with your name and new address. You said you get your mail redirected to that address, USPS sends a letter stating that information with your name and new address... you might be able to use that.

You should try to go to the so called "immigrant friendly banks", like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and sometimes the small banks like credit unions are willing to take you because they will have more customers and therefore be able to collect more fees. My friend was able to get a checking and saving's account from Bofa with just a school I.D. and mexican consulate I.D. The credit union that i have lets you open an account with just a school I.D. if you sign a form that says you don't have a social but you don't owe any money to the government and that is your lawful name. The bank is called Nuvision Federal Credit union, check it out, its only in southern cali though.

I got mine at Bank of America and I'm really happy with the service. I have a student account, which means I don't have to pay monthly fees, but I read you have graduated, so maybe you won't be able to apply for the student ID, but if you are still going to school, take your transcript and show it to them. I only took my passport when i opened my about a couple of years ago and got it.

I hate BofA, even though I did get a student account from them, right now they are hitting a lot of people unexpectedly with very high charges unless you have a student account, or unless you have above a certain balance on your account.

In my opinion Chase is the better branch atm, they also gave me a credit limit that was at least 10 times higher then what BofA gave me, and they have a payment plan that actually pays the higher interest rate charges first unlike BofA where the first charges that you have to pay off first are purchases, even if you have a higher interest charge, and they add interest rates to the higher interest charge cash withdrawal until the lower interest rate charge is fully paid, on top of charging more then $100 a year in fees on their checking account unless you have a student account.
