Assuming most of us where brought here by our parents,
Have any of you gone through that phase where you blame everything on your parents because they brought you here how they did, without you knowing?

I went through it slightly, but not nearly as bad as my brother and cousin have. They went as far as running away and saying they never wanted to see them again....they eventually got over it and came home, but I just thought it was interesting.

So, did you go through it?

I guess I spent a little time thinking about it, but I quickly realized that the Colombia and the United States back then when I came here where completely different then they are now. Back then FARC was waging a war with Colombia, and the biggest issues were that FARC was far better funded then the government through the drug trade and funding themselves through kidnappings and extortions of businesses. Back then I recall my parents getting robbed in my presence on two occasions and recall passing by a bank that was the site of a bombing. The move to this country was more about safety then anything else. The US of back then also gave more hope to immigrants to achieve the american dream. All these problems that we face now, they were not present a decade ago, but everything changed with the terrorists attacks perpetrated on this country, they are the ones that I blame for creating an America that has become paranoid of many things and which has acted swiftly to alienate millions of people, many of which had already gotten accustomed to this culture.

I think once I have kids I'll understand, but yes sometimes I resent them. But then I quickly remind myself that they just wanted the best for me Honestly, I wouldn't have gotten half of the same opportunities I've had here back home (in spite of my status!)

When things get rough, and my dad tells me stuff like "this is life.." etc, I get annoyed and always blame him for my situation. But after wards I feel bad because no matter what I say to my dad, it isn't going to fix the situation I am in. I know things will get better, but I always wonder...when?

Basically it's my Dad's fault we're here. He came here cause he couldn't make it where we're from. My mom was a doctor and he was basically fartin around as a sucky businessman, so he decided to drag our asses to America. It's been 10 years and we're still f*cking around. My younger cousins all have degrees now and here i am 24 years old and don't even have a BA. He had delusions of grandeur that he carelessly tried to pursue and hurting all of us in the process. there's a million ways we could have avoided our situation but he's would probably be too selfish to admit that he made mistakes and for that I hate him. F8ck resentment. He acts like we caused him this situation when it's ALL HIS F*CKIN FAULT.

I never resented my parents for bringing me to the States, because i knew it was better than my country, even if one lived in an ok area, it still was better. I just resented them when I was 15/16, and how they wouldn't let me go out as much as I wanted to, date, drive, work, and any other things that I could've done in my country or any other US citizen was doing at the time. As time passed, I started to realize I couldn't be like my other friends, and I didn't want to date anyway, because life is funner being single (in my opinion), also my friends knew/know about my situation and fully understood and supported me, so they would always make plans around my situation so I wouldn't be left out, and would always give me rides, etc. So, no, I didn't resent them.

I don't resent my parents for bringing me here, but they think I do. I do get mad sometimes that they dont understand how hard things are for me, because they have different situations from me. They do let me know that there is not a day when they dont think about my situation, but then get mad that I didnt take the oppourtunity to go to Russia and always mention that too. But it was just not a place I saw myself being. Im more frustrated at my dreams being blocked.
