I'm 20 years old, and ever since I graduated in 2008, I haven't been able to find a job. I live in Nevada, where unemployment is the highest of the country. I know with my status I can't expect something right away, but out of desperation, I need one NOW. My brother is getting laid off, my dad is at risk of getting laid off, and my mom will be the only one maintaining a 6 person household, which isn't fair. I know many stores like GAP and other clothing stores are hiring seasonal, and was thinking of using my 16 year old brother's valid SSN to apply there in the meantime something gets worked out. I have access to the real SS card with the number, his birth certificate, etc. and he hasn't gotten a state ID nor driver's license yet so this would be beneficial to me. I could easily pass for 16 too, and will probably start applying places. I know this is risky, but I have no choice, and that valid SSN is not being used right now. My question is: will an employer be able to see if I'm using my brother's papers? I think I can get away with passing a background check and most definitely a drug test, but when/if they use e-verify, will I be at risk? Also some fast food places use E-verify, and if I apply there, what exactly will be checked? If an ICE raid were to happen, would I get caught since I would be using a valid SSN and card? Any help is appreciated, and please keep in mind I'm doing this for my family, and not myself.

I would recommend you not do that, because whatever YOU do now will be on your brothers record forever. It doesn't seem like a good idea to me because if you get caught he could be in trouble too. Try craigslist for jobs. There are lots of them on there, some under the table and some not.

That's what I'm trying to do - be as careful so it doesn't affect him in the long run. I'm just that desperate to do something so my family doesn't fall apart. I think if I don't get anything by this upcoming week, I'll start using his SSN because all this stress is really killing me slowly.

Normally i just read i dont ever really post.. But for this i must give my advice.

Don't do it.

Your brother is 16 the legal age to work is 18 and older. If something happens and they investigate your brother age alone will raise red flags. That could lead into an investigation. You would be in trouble along with him and maybe your family as well. Be careful.

Desperate people do desperate things but considering the fact that this is identity theft your sibling could be seen as being apart of it if any investigation came up.I live in a state that has unemployment actually going down and jobs seem to have been coming since the last 2 months or so.In fact we're no. 2 in Job growth for the country and I am now contemplating a third job for the moment.

I think it really depends on where you live and most importantly whom you know that gets you jobs.I can't emphasize how important networking is !!!
