The current 111th Congress retires on January 3, 2011, which means the Democrats are still the majority in the house until then. That's why there is still hope.

No, I believe he may attempt to introduce it as a stand-alone bill since it didn't pass when he attached to the Defense Authorization Bill.

I have always hated filibusters because the always block any type of immigration reform such as in 2007 and the recent vote on the Defense Bill (which incorporated the Dream Act). However, we must note that filibuster will help us against radical proposals such as massive deportation.

I think it's wrong to hope that the economy worsens just because Republicans are in power. A poorer economy means more unemployment for the American People, so that type of thinking is wrong!
And if unemployment increases, any type of immigration reform will be halted, because Americans will blame the undocumented for "stealing" jobs.

I think if Reid just pushes through with Dream through lame duck, it will pass. 3 senators told me that as a standalone bill, they have Republican support.

As for the senators who lost their seat, voting for Dream won't matter anymore so they can easily put in a 'yea' vote...

I'm really optimistic this time. Besides, I'm sure the Hispanics won't forget the Democrats for the next election if Reid manages to pass Dream. Two years from now, I think Democrats can regain the House and Senate with the Hispanic vote.

Yes, it's clear that Bush and his party inherited a surplus which they turned into a deficit. However, let's hope that the economy doesn't worsen because the "hate" on illegal immigrants will increase. But if the economy doesn't get better (remain the same), Republicans will face the same defeat democrats did in this election.

But anyways, I am more interested in the future of comprehensive immigration and especially the dream act. Even though Democrats where in power the last two years, they were unable to pass the dream act. As dreamers, can we still believe in them?
However, Republicans don't want to act on anything beyond border enforcement.
