Just released in SZ (China). New iPad clones run Android 2.2 / Windows 7 with "decent" hardware equal to iPad, supporting Flash 10.1 and multitasking.

8" Android 2.2 aPad - 1GHz Cortex A8 Processor - 512MB DDR2

10.1" Windows 7 ePad - 1.66GHz Atom N455 - 2GB DDR3 - 32GB SSD

Any reviews, discussion on those? I have laid my money down and waiting for the courier to show up. Been burnt before and not holding my breath, but as an ebook reader and wifi surfer?

y not just get a netbook in that case or a laptop w/a touchscreen? I never quite understood the allure of these things.

FWIW I'm getting a new kindle for my brother in christmas.

my browser almost did not let me into the page, it just came up with a whole bunch of warnings about the site.

Either way, the Ipad has 4 times more RAM, it has a faster and stable processos, and 32 GB SSD, SSD is very expensive and allows anything to come up almost instantly, no lag compared to a simple hard drive you would buy in any place. Furthermore, Ipad is larger.

Its almost as if you were comparing a computer with a celeron processor to a computer with an Intel Processor. The computer with Celeron is dirt cheap compared to the Intel, they promise similar things but Celeron can be very unstable, very slow and its known to kick the bucket and cause you to lose everything with shorter warranty. In some cases spending a bit more goes a long way.

For a clone that lags so much in many areas it also looks a bit expensive, specially without the SSD hard drive, that's the biggest loss and deal breaker that I see, that you can expand it with the use of micro SD cards to be up to 32 GB does not compare, plus a 16GB microSD you can find normally for about 90 bucks, a very special offer might be maybe 40-50 bucks, so you will probably spend about as much as the Ipad costs to get the same memory space which is very very slow in comparison.

there are many flaws in your argument
just a few:
celeron is made by intel, and saying celeron is slower than intel doesn't make sense because intel is a company and they make bucketloads of processor types, of which the celeron duos have been proven to be faster than some more expensive processors. Not to mention neither the apple nor the chinese clones have celerons so bringing it up is null.

Going by clock speed (which doesn't tell much these days), the apple seems slower at a glanze (1 ghz), and is a package processor (both processor and memory in one); the A4 to be precise, made by samsung, not intel. BTW: memory is a whopping 256 mb of ram

As far as SSD's most are faster than platter type, but there are exceptions to the rule (what form factor, buffer, etc)... SSD's are new tech. and have been failing prematurely in some cases, however...i haven't checked the specs on the asian clone and whether or not they have platter type or not.

from the looks of it, i'd look at the 200 bux one w/the google OS. Windows 7 is more than likely gonna lag compared to the apple OS (to boot up) which is a platform specifically for the ipad. The thing i'd care the most about this thing is battery life however, and i'm sure the apple has it beat.....it's still a stupid device IMO
