I often visit the website mediamatter.org because they correct all of the misinformation from the right-wing US media. They had a story on DA, and one of the comments I came across, I couldn't really say anything...

It's here http://mediamatters.org/research/201011170002

Any ideas guys? I know we must stay positive at this late stage, but things like this just makes me so mad.

First, I want to clarify some misleading statements from the left. I will clarify these as if I am solving a proof problem in math, if you don't know what a proof problem is, find it out before you make your counter argument.

"The reason that legal immigrants had to wait years to come here while these people didn't, it is because legal immigrants had the resources and these people did not" -- is a false statement. Here is the disproving exampe: I am a legal immigrant, I started immigration applications back in 1980 and I didn't get here until 1988, so to you guys I had plenty of "resources" right? What if instead of waiting I decided to jump the fence? I know you people will say "the journey is dangerous and often people die trying to cross the border". (Even though dangerous or not is out of the context of what we are discussing but I'll give it to you). I will pay double today's rate for those human-traffickers to help me cross the border pleasantly (because I had resources, right guys?), even though back in 1980 it's musch less dangerous and much cheaper. (Of course if I was caught, all I say is I am trying to escape "drug violence and poverty" like you people say now). So now I am in the US, I am an illegal but do I have resources people? Math majors, is that statement disproven?

"We are here illegally because we have drug violence and poverty back home" -- this is misleading and also a weak supporting argument. All you have to do is google "poorest country in the world", click on the first or the second link (this one has pictures), some of these African nations are having a civil war since many years ago. Is open warfare more violent than drug violence? Is being the poorest nation in the world poorer than Mexico? Then by your reasoning of "violence and poverty back home", most of illegals in this country should be people from those African nations instead of Mexico, which we all know is not the case.

So far, two of your most common excuses have been disproved. Using misleading and ambiguous supporting statements for your stance is as if you have said nothing.

Now, the statement that "Dream Act would encourage illegals to come to this country" is actually true, it's just that Foxnews didn't articulate it good enough so that mediamatters.org was able to make a strawman argument, let me show you how:

Dream Act is often being called the "common sense" law by the illegals. Ok, common sense. Use my 8 years of immigration as an example, and I'll even give you some handicap, say 7 year, even though it's much harder now and takes much longer due so many illegals jumping the fence and so many illegals lying to our gov (getting the easier non-immigrant visa and not leaving afterwards). If you have a family, doesn't matter if you are poor or rich (a rich person could be illegal, see my above example), and you just had a baby, would you wait 7 years to come here when we have passed the Dream Act? I am fully aware Dream Act does not cover that baby if he is brought here illegally. BUT, not to worry, when the baby is about college age, have him go do some sit-ins, hunger strikes, and demand for another Dream Act because every single excuse (economy, military, not our fault etc. etc) on those Dream Act activists' websites would still apply, just write an app to change the names of the lawmakers and the President. Now, here is where you need to use your "common sense", knowing this, would you still wait 7 years?? What else you could do if you jump the fence instead of waiting 7 years? One tiny example: Ever play Megamillion or PowerBall, even if you are dirt poor, you can find a penny there and a dime here in the streets of LA and make up one dollar, you will be able to buy a lottery ticket and have a chance to become a millionaire overnight. But I am not a fortune-teller, so I can't tell you if we will still have lotteries 7 years later. This is just one tiny example, only god knows how many opportunities legal immigrants are effectively denied of.

After all this talk, I just recognize that there is a line for immigration, I don't believe legal immigrants have to wait in line for years to come here because they only had half of an American Dream, only half the desire to give their families a better life, or half the desire to enrich this country or half the desire to join its military...Do you all wear a sign on your backs that says "It's ok to cut in front of me" when you go Black Friday shopping??

I realize you might coward off and not show this post at all because you won't be able to counter argue. Don't worry it's saved. I'm actually contacting Fox News, so you won't have a chance to make straw man arguments, and I will also encourage them to openly challenge mediamatters.org for their ambiguous supporting statements.

And contacting Fox news is the best thing because they never lie, right?
If i wouldve gotten the chance to come to the US legally, i would have chosen it even if i had to wait 8 years. But i couldnt even apply for a tourist visa because i would have been denied due to unsufficient economic stability.
Its not cutting in front of the line, its not an "out-of-jail" free card either.

You don't respond to misinformation by giving it a platform. When you address false information, you are essentially giving it more credence.

Instead, do your best to push YOUR SIDE of the truth everywhere you go. You will never change the minds of your opposers. If you address 1 lie, another one will come out. Keep fighting the good fight. BUT Don't fight them in their home turf.

yes resources do not matter to a certain point, luck does. just because he got lucky and was able to get into this country it makes him think hes better than everybody else.

and dreamers never had a chance to apply legally since they were brought here. what changes happen in the lives of people who immigrate legally if this happens? what gets taken away from them? how does this impact them in any way? it is a feeling of jealousy, envy and childish feeling of "How come he gets this" arguments

just because he got lucky in the immigration process doesnt give him the right to put himself in our shoes
