Growing up, my family had a tradition of going to church and giving thanks. We took time off from our busy schedule to just relax and be thankful for the things we have-- with good company.

This year, I'm thankful for my health, school, and family. I won't be traditionally celebrating Thanksgiving but I'm going to do something (different) special that still has to do with Thanksgiving.

What is your family tradition and what are you thankful for?

Well I wish I could say that I'm thankful for something but I'm not thankful for anything the holidays to me are some of the most depressing times of the year because they remind me of the things that I don't have. Most of the time I wish I could just get away from my family and be by myself but I can't, spending time with them is not something I want but I have no choice so I put a smile and just say that I'm fine and try to act like I am but in reality I'm not fine I can't stand my life and there is nothing I can do about it but wait and see what happens don't get me wrong my family is great but I want to be on my own. They always ask me how I am I wish I could tell them how miserable I really feel but that would probably just make me feel even worse. Every year I tell myself that maybe next year will be different but it never is. I have no idea of what to do.

My family and I basically have a Thanksgiving feast, and that's it. I generally enjoy the holidays because I get to eat really good food and stuff. But I don't think I'll be enjoying this particular Thanksgiving because I'm a little bit stressed. My worrying about the DREAM Act in the past few days is starting to take its toll. I really need to relax.

Lol it was like 1 something when you made this thread, people usually come here a little later, relax, take a chill pill. Ungrateful illegals? lol messed up but funny.

Well i don't know what i am going to do because well my mom has to work, and i don't like going with my family because their full of drama. I might end up going with my gf and her family though, it's weird because their so unified it makes it weird for me when they are praying and saying their blessings because i am not a believer in that. If it all else fails, i'm going to go to Carl's Jr. and buying a 6 dollar burger and renting some gory actions films lol.

Its hard to celebrate anything when you have nothing, food is a challenge to get and any decent meal would be just way too much and a waste both on time and money, gifts are a challenge to get, and getting around in the holidays is a risk with more checkpoints and higher police presence looking for drunk drivers.

My family usually celebrate thanksgiving by either buying some cheap food somewhere and eating that, maybe a couple pounds of turkey or whatever.

In either case, this thanksgiving is going to be different, my sister and her fiancee will be here and they are going to cook the turkey, make the stuffing, all that sort of stuff, and my parents will be making natilla and black cake (yes, I know, its not traditional, but we don't know how to make any of the traditional foods, they are good tasting foods though and all made from scratch).

And yet, I have a feeling I will feel rather awkward as I always do, just because celebrating anything feels so.... ironic ATM.

Seriously the recent trend my family has taken towards celebrating anything has been smaller, poorer, cheaper and more... awkward and weird, but maybe I am just getting to americanized and forgetting the latino way of celebrating stuff when there are few people to celebrate with.

My family isn't big on tradition, but i am lol. I'm usually forcing them to celebrate Thanksgiving etc, but its worth it.

This year I'm thankful for all the great people in my life, and the future that awaits me .

Happy Thanksgiving guys!
