Come on, they aren't stupid. They know you only have two choices, and there is zero chance you will go with the other choice that wants you out of the country for good. I think that as long as it looks like they are trying a bit every now and then, they think it is enough.

Amen to that!

And if Obama gave out some wide sweeping executive order, I bet my bottom dollar the Republican controlled house would respond with impeachment...

People are already starting to get disillusioned. I'm not saying that minorities are suddenly gonna vote Republican. What I'm guessing will happen is that there will be a low turnout of pro-immigrants in the next election. One reason why the Republicans did well in the midterm elections was because their base cared more about the elections than Democrats. If the Democrats want to show the community that they truly can fix the immigration problem, they better pass the DREAM Act. If they can't pass the DREAM Act, there is no chance in hell that they can accomplish CIR.

Agreed. These opinion pieces are distracting.

Regarding obama making an EO - a hundred to one
Regarding impeachment - won't get through, u need a real crime to impeach someone, even if its something low level, second u would need 2/3 of the senate

Regarding the two arguments against DREAM:

1) It's a fraud. It claims to give amnesty only to illegal immigrants brought here when they were young by their families. "We don't punish children for the sins of their parents," the argument goes. But the parents get legalized too: once the kids are citizens, in a few years, they could obtain legal papers for their mothers, fathers and perhaps other relatives...

Here are the facts regarding the DREAM bill and related immigration law.
• After the “conditional” component is removed from one’s LPR status, the individual may petition for his/her spouse and children. But because the individual arrived in the US as a child, this is a highly unlikely scenario.
• Five years after the obtaining LPR status AND with the “conditional” component removed from the LPR, the individual may apply for US citizenship. After becoming a citizen, the individual may petition for spouse, children, parents, brothers, and sisters. If the petition is approved, the relatives will be placed on a waiting list which is typically 10 years or longer. But in reality, since it was probably the parent(s) who brought the individual, then a child, across the border, the parents are already here. The siblings are probably here as well since the parent(s) are unlikely to leave some of their children behind. In this scenario where the parents and/or siblings of the individual are already present in the US undocumented, the newly naturalized citizen can petition for them, but there is no provision in US immigration law for the petition to be processed after approval; it just becomes a dormant document.

2) It creates a huge new incentive for more illegal immigration. Even if only illegal immigrant children (and not their parents) get put on a "path" to legalization, that creates a big incentive for potential future illegal immigrants with children, now living in other countries, to sneak across the border to await the next installment of DREAM...

There is some validity in this statement, but very little. When people are living in desperation and poverty, the last thing on their mind is long-term family planning. This demonstrates the gross ignorance of American journalists (not to mention citizens in general) who were educated in the US, don’t have a clue about what’s going on outside their safe little world, and never had a bad day in their lives. The real incentive for folks to immigrate into the US is something much more tangible and within immediate reach…JOBS.
