Ok, so heres my story.
I was born in Oaxaca Mexico. My parents did not have much money. My dad crossed the border when i was about 3. He sent for us when i was 4. I came to live in North Carolina, and lived there for about 12 amazing years. I moved to Virginia about 2 and a half years ago. I dont really remember much about Mexico. Anyways, i am a senior in high school and have pretty decent grades. I have applied to many colleges, including a private college called Barton. It's a pretty great school, except it costs about 30 grand per year. That is way more than my parents make per year. The Barton rep. has told me i would be a great candidate for that school, and since it is a private school i would have no problem getting accepted. I would rather attend a community college because they are way cheaper. Except they always ask for SS# on the online applications. I am stuck here. I dont know what i'm going to do after i graduate. I don't want to give up. My older brother graduated about 2 years ago and had to give up his dreams because college was too expensive and wouldnt allow him to attend. It broke my heart. I really dont want to see this happening to me. I have so much faith in this DREAM act and pray to god it passes. If anyway who is also undocumented and lives in North Carolina and got into college, please tell me how!

I was born in Oaxaca, too. My dad came here when he was roughly 16 years of age. I was 2 at the time. I have lived in Cali since I was that age. I now just turned 18. Very similar stories, huh.

Wish I could help you regarding conditions in North Carolina, other than doing research (which I think you have already done and found no answer?).

By the way, if it's not too personal..when did you find out you were undocumented?

Well, i didnt really know i was undocumented until high school started. You know, with everyone getting their driving permits and everything. I still feel a little left out on that matter.

call the public schools/community colleges and see if you can talk to an advisor, ask him/her if there is any way for you to apply. I also got stuck in that part of the application that asked for SSN number back in Miami, when I was thinking about taking duel enrollment out, it was not until I talked to my high school advisor that I learned that I could just leave that portion blank and submit like that to take the classes. Since then I have known other dreamers that have attended that community college, there is even one dreamer on here that lists that states she graduated from that particular community college. Just don't give up because you see an application requiring an SSN number, call the schools, talk to people, see if there is a way for you to apply that you do not have to use an SSN number, you might not get the lowest price, but hey... it will be a lot cheaper then the private university you mentioned and you will not have to stop your education.

Here is the important part though, you cannot accept any kind of scholarships unless you are 100% sure its from a private source and has absolutely no ties to federal taxes and does not explicitly disqualify you because of your status.

good luck

This is true! A advisor told me to get a print out application instead of online one and leave the SSN area blank

most community colleges should not be a problem at all getting in. I've attended several schools in different states and never had much of a problem. You should be able to leave the SS# blank and the school should issue you a school ID number
