I thought they already used it to scan some of the trucks coming through, it does tend to slow things so they mostly rely on small handheld machines to screen for particular items, the handheld machines are not x-ray or anything like that, it just tries to pick up signs of dangerous elements, i.e., the radiation of easily detectable yet potentially dangerous elements. They send the trucks that they suspect to the x-ray truck that will check the contents revealing them in much a similar manner as the new TSA machines.

I recall seeing an example on t.v. once where they used it to find drugs in large drums holding some unknown liquid but there were large bundles inside the drums that ended up holding hundreds of kilos of drugs. The alternative would have been taking a sample drum or two, hoping that the random drum was not a decoy and sticking a stick inside to see if you hit something that was not supposed to be there. They also showed how it appeared to the x-ray operator and how easy it was to see the bundles inside the drums.
