uh NO. the whole point of the dream act is not punishing children for the crimes of their parents. so how is a child who "jumped" the fence by the choice of his/her parents NOT in a better position then someone who willingly and knowingly overstayed a student visa?

2. Lowers the age cap for eligibility for the DREAM Act to 29 on the date of enactment.

e. Has abused a student visa;
This excludes a huge group of previously eligible people.

Quote:
9. Requires anyone applying for the DREAM Act to show that he is likely to qualify in order to
receive a stay of deportation while his application is pending. The DREAM Act is not a safe
harbor from deportation.

11. Places the burden of proof on a DREAM Act applicant. An individual would be required to
demonstrate eligibility for the DREAM Act by a preponderance of the evidence.
Are you freaking kidding me?! I can't believe something like 9) is even considered. It means that there is a possibility we can still get deported while our application is being considered.

If this is the only thing we can get then yeah, alright, but get off your high horse and stop calling it the Dream Act.

You are getting a highly educated, and very hard working group of people, who won't be eligible for any social, medical or financial benefits that would be covered by their own taxes. These people could be classified as Americans, in spirit albeit not law, and you're giving them H1 visas for 10 years. And as the icing on the cake, you are negatively labeling them "conditional non-immigrants", and you are still calling this the Dream Act.

It makes me sick to my stomach. I've never heard of anything like this happening before, anywhere. What country on earth, wouldn't want a group of college educated, hard working people, who would essentially be paying a tax simply to be able to live there, and not even get a legal resident status?

For example in the UK, you can get a work visa for a year if you're under 30, have your bachelors, can speak English and have $4000 to bring with you to not be a public charge, and once you have a job you can adjust to a resident status after 4 years. Why can't the US be reasonable for once?

I don't think so cause when you get a F1(correct me if I'm wrong) you aggree to return home,that why you have to show you have assests(this was my case, but i left after highschool 17 and return before i was 18.. so techically i would qullaitym, i would consult a lawyer to see what they say!

What if someone who came on tourist visa, applied and granted student F-1 visa, then attempted but failed to apply for I-485 green card and then failed. Will he qualify?

The only thing I need to do is apply for Selective Services. Do you guys think any problems will arise because I'm 22 and just now applying?
