I know that the DREAM Act has not passed the Congress and that we do not know whether it will pass or not. So, I didn't want to post this question since it is about a potential problem with applying for legal status under the DREAM Act. However, whether it passes or not, I just want to know the answer to my question. So, if anyone knows the answer to my question or has some knowledge/opinion regarding it, please reply or leave comments.

So, I graduated from a high school and am currently a university student. One thing I realized is that when I registered for my high school and university, I put my middle name wrong. That is, my true legal middle name is different from the legal middle name that the two schools have for me.

My true legal middle name, which my passport and state ID have, has a "u" in it. But, I put two "o"s rather than a "u". The origin of the problem was probably the worker who processed my visa when I was in my country. For the record of my high school, I don't know what to do. For my university, I changed my full middle name to an initial to avoid any potential problem.

I know middle names are not as important as first or last names, but I'm a bit worried about potential problems. Will this be a problem when I apply for legal status under the DREAM Act if the bill ever passes? I don't think the text of the bill mentions anything about wrong names, so I'm pretty sure that it will all depend on what the Department of Homeland Security decides on this when it considers my application. Will I have to notify them of this issue when I submit my application?

Does anyone have any idea about this issue?

Again, it is foolish of me to think about it when the bill is still a bill....
Sorry and thank you in advance. I just want to forget about it, but it is difficult to do so.

My universities have clobbered my middle name by omitting the last 2 letters. I need to go and correct this sometime, but I've been too lazy. I think the problem is that my middle name is 14 letters (which is absurdly long) and the computer system shortened it to 12 so on all of my university transcripts and so on, the name shows up 2 letters short.

I was supposed to have received 2 Associate's degrees from my community college. I haven't seen them yet, but I bet that they have my middle name wrong.

Thanks for replying to my post.
At least, it is not your fault. It was not you that submitted your middle name wrong.
But, living with a middle name that has 14 letters must be difficult .

Such issues will be dealt with a on a case by case basis.
Only a lawyer with experience on such issues or a DHS Agent who has dealt with similar issues can answer your question. The most likely scenario (my guess), it will probably not be a problem.

Thank you for answering my question.
I was thinking the same since the name difference is the only problem and since I have a lot of evidence to prove my residency, graduation from an American high school, and entrance to a (large) American university.

I guess that I'll have to contact the DHS and a lawyer if the DREAM Act ever passes.............

Yeah, they have scans of my passport & high school records which has the right name, so I'm not worried about getting it fixed.

I think I know who screwed it up too. When I first enrolled in college, the magnetic stripe on my ID card wasn't working so I took it to the ID center to get a new one and the girl working there said that the error was because my middlename was too long so she fixed it.

I think I got Ellis Island'd.

I use my first name and my dads last name ,but on my birth certificate and passport I am listed as Firstname-Middlename-Dad's last name-Mom's lastname.

However, I want to drop everything but my first name and get a new last name once I can do it.
